Strategic Communications Director

Location: Onsite in San Francisco, CA

Compensation: $130,000 - $150,000 per year with comprehensive benefits.



Position Summary: Our client is seeking a Strategic Communications Director to lead and shape all internal and external written materials in partnership with the CEO and senior leadership team. The ideal candidate will bring 8+ years of experience in communications within social justice focused on content strategy, executive communications, and brand consistency in a fast-paced setting.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Drive content strategy and executive communications for the CEO, including internal/external communications, press releases, and speeches.
  • Build strong relationships with staff for effective internal communications.
  • Design and implement a strategic internal communication plan.
  • Adapt to the CEO’s tone and voice for various communications.
  • Create and maintain promotional collateral for external audiences.
  • Ensure quality control of all communications as Editor-in-Chief.
  • Develop and execute media strategies to tell the organization's story.
  • Expand media relations across broadcast and print media.
  • Craft executive voice for key moments, including Op-Eds and high-profile visits.
  • Stay informed on public affairs to write relevant content.
  • Collaborate on innovative collateral, digital marketing, and online presence.
  • Work across teams to promote programs, fundraising, advocacy, and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 8-10 years of leadership experience in writing and communications.
  • Writing samples for a CEO upon request.
  • Experience in nonprofit, social impact, or issues-focused marketing.
  • Expertise in social justice issues and empathy for the community’s lived experiences.
  • Proven ability to develop and measure communication plans/strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to convey the mission persuasively.
  • Advanced writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Preferred: multilingual skills, knowledge of HTML, CSS, WordPress, Google Analytics, Salesforce, Pardot, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
