BACKGROUND

Prodigy Search is recruiting an accounting & finance executive to lead financial operations for a professional sports team. This accounting executive is accountable for end-to-end financial operations across a professional sports team, leading FP&A, accounting, and reporting while driving budgeting, forecasting, performance management, and executive decision support. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain accurate accounting records, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank accounts, and preparing financial statements.
• Maintain accurate, ongoing analysis of budgets, forecasts, and trends, and counsel leadership on the financial impact of new programs, strategic initiatives, and systems changes.
• Lead the annual budget and long-range planning cycle; implement driver-based models across admissions, premium/hospitality, partnerships, retail, parking, facilities, and community programs.
• Deliver timely management reporting with variance analysis, KPI dashboards, cohort/event profitability, and scenario planning.
• Serve as the principal finance partner to portfolio leadership and entity heads (admissions, partnerships, marketing, event ops, facilities, community impact).
• Translate data into clear operating plans; align P&L accountability and resource allocation to strategic priorities.
• Lead and develop a small, high-performing accounting team.
• Establish standard work (close calendars, planning playbooks, SLAs), automate recurring reports, and improve forecast accuracy. ● Partner with HR/Payroll to ensure payroll reflected correctly in financials.
• Build trusted relationships with team leaders (ticketing/admissions, partnerships, marketing, event ops, facilities, community impact) to align organization plans

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of progressive experience in finance & accounting leadership required.
• Industry experience in arena and professional sports team highly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required; CPA required.
• Proven leader who builds teams, elevates processes, and influences cross-functionally.
• Very strong business acumen with a financial background across multiple disciplines.
