About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Director, Design & Construction to oversee strategic sourcing and procurement activities supporting design, construction, capital projects, and facilities initiatives. This role partners with client leadership, project teams, architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to optimize procurement strategies while ensuring successful project execution. The ideal candidate combines procurement expertise with deep knowledge of construction, capital projects, and facilities management.
Responsibilities
- Lead sourcing and procurement strategy for construction and capital projects
- Develop category strategies for design services, general contractors, subcontractors, building materials, FF&E, MEP systems, and related services
- Partner with facilities, real estate, finance, and project leadership teams
- Manage competitive bid processes (RFPs/RFQs)
- Negotiate construction contracts, professional services agreements, and supplier partnerships
- Analyze project spend and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Build strong supplier relationships and manage vendor performance
- Support capital planning and procurement governance
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies and contractual obligations
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the construction procurement lifecycle
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree
- 8+ years of procurement, sourcing, construction management, facilities, or capital project experience
- Strong knowledge of construction procurement and contract negotiations
- Experience managing large capital projects and supplier relationships
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong financial and analytical capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
- Willingness to travel approximately 25%
Preferred
- Healthcare construction or facilities experience
- Experience supporting healthcare systems, higher education, or large commercial real estate portfolios
- Knowledge of AIA contracts and construction procurement best practices
- PMP, LEED, CPSM, or related certifications
The Director of Design and Construction is a remote role, with travel up to 25% within the US.
Salary for this position is $180,000 - $190,000 with benefits
