Electrical Engineer – Design Advanced Spacecraft Power Systems!

San Francisco, CA (Onsite)

Opportunity Summary

A fast-moving, venture-backed aerospace startup is seeking a mission-driven Electrical Engineer specializing in power supply design for spacecraft. Our team is building the future of scalable, orbital platforms with active contracts across both commercial and government sectors. In this role, you’ll take ownership of end-to-end development of flight-ready power subsystems, including DC-DC converters, power distribution units, and battery management systems. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape the electrical backbone of a spacecraft platform purpose-built for high-volume deployment in space.

About Us

We’re developing a novel spacecraft bus architecture designed to radically simplify deployment and operation of satellite constellations. Our compact, modular design reduces cost and complexity by rethinking power delivery, control systems, and integration. Backed by top-tier investors and national security partners, we’re on a mission to make orbit more accessible, reliable, and scalable through intelligent system design and robust engineering.

Job Duties

  • Design, simulate, and validate spacecraft power supply systems including isolated and non-isolated DC-DC converters, power regulation circuits, and power distribution networks
  • Lead design of energy storage and battery management solutions, including charge/discharge control, thermal protection, and SOC estimation
  • Develop and implement maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategies for solar input optimization
  • Create schematics and PCB layouts for power electronics using Altium or equivalent design tools
  • Support spacecraft integration, functional test, and environmental qualification of power electronics
  • Analyze system-level power budgets and contribute to architecture-level decisions around energy efficiency and redundancy
  • Collaborate with avionics, mechanical, and software teams to ensure reliable power delivery across all mission phases
  • Apply and adhere to design practices for radiation tolerance, thermal constraints, and launch survivability

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience designing and testing power supply circuits and power electronics for mission-critical or embedded systems
  • Deep understanding of analog circuit design, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), and energy storage systems
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (SPICE, LTspice, etc.) and design platforms (Altium, KiCAD, etc.)
  • Familiarity with spacecraft or aerospace environments, including thermal cycling and radiation-hard design considerations
  • Proficient in board-level testing, debugging, and system integration
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience designing flight-ready power electronics for small satellites or CubeSats
  • Background in modular spacecraft architectures and scalable platform design
  • Knowledge of battery technologies (Li-ion, LiFePO4) and spacecraft charging profiles
  • Prior experience supporting government, dual-use, or defense-related space programs
  • Comfort working in early-stage startup environments with high autonomy and impact

Security Clearance

Must be eligible to obtain a US Secret clearance.

Why Join Us?

  • Define and own core power system design for next-gen spacecraft
  • Be an early technical leader at a high-growth, venture-backed space company
  • Solve complex engineering challenges with a world-class, multidisciplinary team
  • Competitive compensation and early equity with significant growth upside
  • Medical, dental, vision, and additional startup perks
