Electrical Engineering Team Lead – Commercial MEP

Location: Portland, Oregon metro area (Hybrid flexibility)

Salary: $160K+ base, plus bonus opportunity


About the Opportunity

HireIQ Solutions is seeking an Electrical Engineering Team Lead to oversee all electrical engineering efforts across commercial MEP projects throughout Oregon, including leadership across multiple offices, such as their growing team in Bend. This is a hybrid role based in the Portland metro area, offering a balance of in-office collaboration and work-from-home flexibility.


This leadership position combines team oversight, project delivery excellence, and cross-discipline collaboration. The Team Lead will guide electrical engineers, manage workload distribution, and serve as a technical expert across the company’s commercial building portfolio. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity ideal for an experienced PE looking to step into a visible, high-impact role.


Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Electrical Engineers, fostering collaboration, mentorship, and technical growth.
  • Oversee and contribute to the design of electrical systems in commercial buildings, ensuring code compliance, constructability, and design quality.
  • Serve as a technical expert on all electrical engineering aspects of projects, offering review, guidance, and QA/QC oversight.
  • Coordinate cross-discipline with mechanical, plumbing, architectural, and structural teams to support integrated design delivery.
  • Attend and lead project coordination meetings with clients and internal teams, presenting project progress and technical recommendations.
  • Support fee proposal development, project planning, and requests for additional services.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers, assisting in professional development and technical acumen.
  • Represent the firm with professionalism in client interactions, building strong relationships and helping to win repeat business.
  • Stay current with evolving codes, technologies, and industry standards; promote continuous improvement within the electrical engineering discipline.
  • Stamp and sign design documents where appropriate as the Engineer of Record.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • 15+ years of experience in electrical design for commercial MEP projects.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred (team leadership, project management, or mentorship roles).
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and other relevant design software.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Valid Driver’s License; some travel may be required across Oregon.
