About Bazin Brothers Trucking, Inc.

Bazin Brothers Trucking is a respected, family-owned heavy civil construction company based in Vermont, known for delivering high-quality work across site development, utilities, earthwork, and infrastructure projects throughout Southern Vermont and Southwestern New Hampshire.

With a team of approximately 25–40 employees depending on season, the company offers a close-knit, collaborative environment where individuals are trusted to take ownership of their work. Leadership is deeply committed to doing things the right way—prioritizing quality, integrity, and long-term relationships over cutting corners.

Bazin Brothers has also demonstrated a forward-thinking approach to construction, having been an early adopter of advanced technologies, including GPS-enabled equipment. The company continues to invest in modern tools, well-maintained equipment, and better ways of working.

Position Overview

This is a pivotal hire driven by growth and succession planning. As senior leadership steps back from day-to-day estimating responsibilities, the company is seeking a Senior Estimator who can take ownership of the bid process and help expand the volume of work pursued.

The Senior Estimator will lead the full lifecycle of estimating efforts—from initial review through bid submission and project handoff—while collaborating closely with leadership on strategy and execution.

While this role includes some project management responsibilities, the primary focus is on estimating. Candidates with strong estimating experience will be well supported in developing any additional project management capabilities over time.

This opportunity is well suited for a hands-on professional who understands how heavy civil work is built in the field and is confident standing behind their numbers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the estimating process from initial plan review through bid submission, award, and project transition
  • Prepare detailed, production-based estimates for heavy civil work including earthwork, utilities, excavation, site work, paving, and trucking
  • Analyze plans and specifications to identify scope gaps, risks, and constructability considerations
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop realistic, field-informed cost projections
  • Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Collaborate with ownership and project leadership on bid strategy and pricing decisions
  • Support state and DOT project submittals and documentation requirements
  • Assist with project management responsibilities as needed, particularly related to documentation, coordination, and project setup
  • Ensure smooth handoff of awarded work to field operations

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction (additional experience preferred)
  • Strong background in site work, utilities, earthwork, and excavation
  • Experience with DOT and municipal bidding processes
  • Familiarity with state project submittals and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS, HeavyBid, Bid2Win, Excel, or similar
  • Field experience is highly valued and considered a strong differentiator
  • Ability to independently manage estimates from start to finish
  • Detail-oriented with strong judgment and practical problem-solving skills

Work Environment & Schedule

This is primarily an in-office position based in Vermont, with some flexibility over time depending on the individual. The typical workweek aligns with standard business hours; however, the role is deadline-driven. There will be times when early mornings or later evenings are required to meet bid deadlines.

Project work is concentrated in Southern Vermont and Southwestern New Hampshire, with occasional local travel for site visits and pre-bid meetings.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Competitive salary based on experience ($80,000 – $110,000, with flexibility for highly qualified candidates)
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) with approximately 30% employee ownership
  • Employer-supported health insurance (approximately 75% covered)
  • 401(k) plan with discretionary profit sharing
  • Generous paid time off, including approximately three weeks of vacation
  • Dental and vision plans available
  • Mileage reimbursement with potential for company vehicle over time
  • Relocation assistance may be considered for the right candidate

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Opportunity to take ownership of a critical function within a growing company
  • Direct collaboration with experienced leadership and decision-makers
  • A company culture that values doing work the right way—without compromise
  • Minimal bureaucracy and no micromanagement
  • Exposure to challenging, meaningful projects that require creative problem-solving
  • Long-term stability with a company that values accountability and craftsmanship
