Position Overview:
The Gentleman's Farm Manager (GFM) will be responsible for overseeing the seamless operation and maintenance of the couple’s residences as well as managing the development of the larger estate in Washington, CT. The position requires routine travel between the property locations.
The PM will be professional and experienced in anticipating the needs of the principals and the properties. This job includes managing a variety of staff, contractors, and projects; HR duties including payroll; and accounting/budgeting. It is important that the PM takes a hands-on approach regarding all responsibilities (the job is not exclusively a management position and requires approximately 80% hands-on work).
Responsibilities:
- Estate Management: Day-to-day operations of all residences while maintaining high standards and efficiencies.
- Staff Management: Oversee staff of all the properties as well as equestrian staff. HR duties include hiring/firing, payroll, staff development, and cross-training for efficiency wherever possible.
- Construction and Projects: Manage and coordinate both ongoing and upcoming projects, serving as a link where necessary between architects/contractors/vendors/designers and principals.
- Household Administration: Manage all administrative matters for the properties, including household inventories, budgets, and commercial insurance. Create expense reports for principals.
- IT and Systems: Oversee IT, micro cogeneration, and security systems.
- Equipment: Maintenance and use of various farm and construction equipment (snowplows, forklift, lawn tractors, skid steer, mini excavator, etc.)
- Vehicle Management: Oversee and coordinate maintenance and cleaning of the principals’ cars as well as all vehicle maintenance for the properties.
- Road Maintenance: Ensure all properties’ roads are kept clean and accessible, particularly during the winter months.
Requirements:
- Previous property and/or estate management experience, including complex construction projects with a farm and/or equestrian focus.
- Must be mechanically and technically inclined regarding equipment and systems. Possesses problem-solving and planning skills. Experienced with plumbing, electrical, drainage, pool systems, etc and experienced in being resourceful.
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task multiple projects.
- Ability to work in a hands-on manner, both independently and with a team.
- Ability to work closely with principals regarding their needs and vision for the properties.
- Highly detail-oriented and service-oriented.
- Ability to use IT regarding creating various reports and managing/overseeing work schedules for estate operations and maintenance (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Flexible mindset regarding work scheduling with availability to work weekends as needed.
- High familiarity and experience with New England winters and snow removal.
- Comfortable in an equestrian setting and/or overseeing the care of horses. Equestrian knowledge or experience is a plus but not required.
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral.
- Must be legal to work in the U.S.
