Job Description:
We Are Seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support the maintenance, enhancement, and modernization of a complex disease surveillance and public health data system. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions that support disease surveillance, registries, and case management functions used to respond to public health events and improve data-driven decision making. The Data Engineer will serve as a technical lead, providing guidance to development teams while ensuring system reliability, data integrity, and compliance with development and security standards. This role will also contribute to modernization efforts by developing cloud-based solutions, maintaining automated processes, and improving system performance and data accessibility.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance data solutions using cloud-based technologies.
· Develop, maintain, and enhance complex data pipelines and ETL processes.
· Ensure system reliability, data integrity, and performance for enterprise data systems.
· Design and implement logical and physical database models to support application and reporting needs.
· Develop and maintain database objects including stored procedures, functions, and queries.
· Implement and manage search and analytics solutions to support efficient data retrieval and analysis.
· Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using modern programming languages such as Python or Scala.
· Support application modernization efforts and improve automation and system functionality.
· Participate in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment.
· Develop technical documentation, design specifications, and system diagrams to support development and maintenance activities.
· Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to review system designs and ensure requirements are met.
· Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams supporting critical applications.
· Support integration of health-related data systems and ensure compliance with established data and security standards.
· Contribute to Agile development processes and participate in sprint planning, development activities, and project reviews.
· Manage source code and version control using modern development tools.
· Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
Required Skills:
· 12+ years of experience developing and supporting complex database systems.
· 8+ years of experience working with Databricks.
· 8+ years of experience using Elasticsearch and Kibana for data search and analytics.
· 8+ years of experience programming with Python and/or Scala.
· 8+ years of experience working with Oracle databases.
· 5+ years of experience designing and developing ETL processes and data pipelines.
· 5+ years of experience developing applications and solutions within AWS cloud environments.
· 5+ years of experience working with data warehousing, data visualization tools, and data integrity processes.
· 5+ years of experience implementing CMM/CMMI Level 3 development methodologies and best practices.
· 5+ years of experience working in Agile development environments, including test-driven development practices.
· Experience designing logical and physical database models.
· Experience developing database objects such as stored procedures and functions.
· Experience working with source control systems such as Git.
· Experience developing technical documentation, system designs, and functional specifications.
· Experience integrating and working with Electronic Health Record (EHR) data standards such as HL7.
Preferred Skills
· 3+ years of experience developing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
· Experience implementing cloud-based data architectures and distributed data systems.
· Experience working on large-scale Agile projects with cross-functional teams.
· Experience creating system documentation, workflow diagrams, and interface designs to support development and system requirements.
