Cats Protection
Trustee – IT and Digital Governance
This is a voluntary role and does not attract financial remuneration. Reasonable expenses associated with your trustee role may be claimed.
Cats Protection is the UK’s leading cat welfare charity, driven by a nationwide network of volunteers supporting cats and the people who care for them. With more than 182 volunteer-led branches, 31 centres, 80 retail shops, and a strong national presence in policy and education, the charity helps around 156,000 cats each year.
Cats Protection is mid-way through an ambitious 10-year strategy while also approaching its 100th anniversary in 2027. Already demonstrating a successful track record of change, the charity is financially sustainable, progressive and socially impactful. It is now seeking a Trustee with senior IT and digital expertise to join its Board and support the organisation in harnessing technology to maximise its impact.
As a Trustee, you will share collective responsibility for the governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability of the charity. Bringing expertise in IT, digital transformation and CRM implementation, you will provide strategic assurance to the Board and Senior Leadership Team, offering independent insight, constructive challenge and informed oversight on digital ambition, investment decisions and associated risks. You will help ensure that technology, data and digital capability are aligned to organisational priorities, represent value for money and support stronger outcomes for cats, communities and supporters.
The role includes Board-level oversight of cyber security, data protection and technology risk, while encouraging innovation and the considered adoption of digital tools, including CRM platforms, data insight and emerging technologies such as AI. You will also support assurance that digital services are user-focused, accessible and inclusive, and that significant programmes are governed effectively, with clear accountability, measurable benefits and robust performance monitoring.
The successful candidate will bring senior-level experience in IT, digital or technology transformation within a complex, multi-site or distributed organisation. You will have a strong understanding of governance, risk and assurance frameworks, alongside the ability to operate at Board level, offering independent judgement and constructive challenge. Prior trustee experience is not essential, and support will be provided for those new to Board roles. Above all, you will share our commitment to creating a society where every cat can live their best life.
Cats Protection welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds and is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities it serves.
