Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Automation Manager to lead our client’s automation team in delivering innovative, reliable control systems for engineered equipment including compressors, blowers, and vacuum systems. This role blends technical leadership with strategic vision, focusing on developing people, advancing automation capabilities, and planning for long-term success.
Partnering with the engineering manager, production teams, purchasing, service teams, and field operations teams this individual will play a key role in company-wide collaboration, systems integration, and team growth. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls, combined with the ability to mentor others and guide the team into future technologies and processes.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow the automation team (technicians and engineers) with a focus on trust, skill development, and long-term success.
- Set technical direction and ensure high-quality execution of automation projects from concept to delivery—including programming, commissioning, and field support.
- Champion strategic planning for the department’s automation roadmap, with a strong emphasis on scalability, standardization, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with peers in engineering, production, and customer service to ensure systems are fully integrated and aligned with company goals.
- Oversee departmental workflow, training needs, hiring, and resource planning to ensure smooth execution across all projects.
- Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and cross-functional teamwork, rooted in practical leadership and hands-on support.

- Proficient in ladder logic and structured text; familiar with simulation and testing best practices for automation systems.
- Capable of troubleshooting both in the office and in the field; comfortable navigating fast-paced and dynamic environments.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
- May occasionally exert up to 50 lbs. during site work or equipment commissioning.
- Comfortable working in office, production, and field environments as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- 8+ years of experience in industrial automation and controls, with 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Deep knowledge of PLCs (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley preferred), HMI development (IXDeveloper, FactoryTalk, or similar), and control systems integration.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, wiring practices, instrumentation, and communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP).
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage technical projects, and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
