Position Overview


The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a senior executive partner to the CEO/President and a key member of the Riley Sales leadership team. This individual will provide strategic financial leadership across all aspects of the business, with direct oversight of financial operations spanning multiple branch locations. The CFO is responsible for driving financial strategy, reporting, forecasting, and capital allocation while ensuring the company maintains strong liquidity, cash flow, and inventory health. This role requires a hands-on executive who can operate at both the strategic and operational level — building and leading a high-performing finance and accounting team, modernizing financial systems, and positioning Riley Sales for sustained, profitable growth.


Key Responsibilities

A. Financial Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and execute the company's overall financial strategy in alignment with growth objectives and long-term business priorities
  • Lead annual budgeting, multi-year financial planning, and scenario modeling to support executive decision-making
  • Provide financial insight and analytical support to guide CEO, ownership, and board-level discussions
  • Evaluate and support new branch openings, and capital investment decisionsopening 

B. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Oversee cash flow forecasting and liquidity management across all branch locations
  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, and credit/collections processes to optimize cash cycles
  • Optimize working capital cycles to support operational efficiency across the distribution network
  • Establish and maintain banking relationships and credit facilities commensurate with company scale and growth plans

C. Inventory & Cost Management

  • Partner with operations on inventory valuation, controls, and costing methodologies
  • Monitor inventory turnover, aging, and write-down risk across all distribution locations
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives and margin improvement strategies at both the product and branch level
  • Implement product-level and branch-level profitability analysis to support strategic pricing and purchasing decisions

D. Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Maintain full compliance with GAAP, applicable tax regulations, and relevant industry standards
  • Oversee internal controls, internal and external audit processes, and enterprise risk management frameworks

Technology & Financial Systems

  • Drive continuous improvement of financial reporting tools, dashboards, and management information systems
  • Manage third party IT partner

Leadership & Team Development

  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the finance function
  • Collaborate cross-functionally 


Qualifications

Required

  • 15–20+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, demonstrating increasing scope and responsibility
  • Minimum 5 years in a CFO, VP of Finance, or equivalent executive financial leadership role
  • Proven experience in wholesale distribution, construction, HVAC supply, building materials, or a closely related industry
  • Deep expertise in inventory management, cost accounting, and working capital optimization
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-location or multi-branch financial operations
  • Track record of successful cash flow management within a product- and inventory-intensive business
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (required)
