This is a well-established, independently run alternative asset manager with over 25 years in the industry and more than $5bn in assets under management. Operating across seven global offices — London, New York, Hong Kong, Geneva, Dubai, Singapore, and the BVI — they serve institutional investors, private banks, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals through a range of hedge fund and private equity strategies.
Their technology function is deliberately lean: a small, high-output engineering team building and running a proprietary cloud-native data platform. Everyone owns their work. Everyone has visibility to the top.
The Role
They're hiring a Data Engineer to join a three-person engineering team, reporting directly to the COO.
This isn't a role where you wait for a ticket. You'll be expected to sit with stakeholders across ops, research, and investment — ask hard questions, find where data is breaking down, and fix it. The person who thrives here is someone who sees inefficiency and can't leave it alone.
Day to day you'll be:
- Maintaining and improving production pipelines from financial data vendors
- Identifying bottlenecks in how data flows across the business and eliminating them
- Reducing latency, improving reliability, building better alerting
- Building AI capabilities — RAG pipelines, OCR-based document extraction
- Managing AWS infrastructure with Terraform
- Collaborating with non-technical stakeholders as naturally as you do with engineers
What you need
- Strong Python and SQL
- Hands-on AWS experience
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
- Production operations experience — you've owned incidents, not just watched them
- Confident communicating with non-technical teams
- Comfortable using AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) day-to-day
