The Role

  • Lead the hardware engineering team in the design, development, and testing 
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure on-time and within-budget delivery of hardware products.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams, product management, and manufacturing to bring hardware products from concept to production.
  • Systems and process infrastructure assures accuracy and clarity of design, documentation, proactive and managed change control.
  • Continually improving quality of outcomes across organization and suppliers.
  • Deliver new design revisions on time
  • Develop schedules of future release with a 1–2-year time horizon with company buy-in.
  • Develop comprehensive product requirements documents covering a wide range of engineering disciplines: electronic controls, HVAC equipment and plumbing products.
  • Define and manage certification strategies and tests.
  • Ensure that all hardware development processes and products comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Review, resolve or escalate production and field issues within an agreed service level.
  • Define supporting processes and service levels.
  • Director's detailed knowledge of product and processes plays a substantial role at a daily level in issue resolution, directly through problem-solving and indirectly by ‘triage’ and reassignment of work to correct company team members.
  • Provide "send-ready" written and illustrated technical content for proposals, investor communications, and customer-facing documentation.


Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware engineering with progressive increases in responsibility including team leadership
  • You have designed $1,000+ consumer products with electronics, shipped them to contract manufacturers, and handled UL certifications.
  • You have worked with 1,000+ unit runs and scaled production to 10,000–100,000+ units.
  • You know how to design for reliability and warranties. You have solid design skills and a track record of building real, working products.
  • You have handled manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics, from forecasting to production planning.
  • You can take rough ideas and turn them into scalable, working processes.


Nice to Have

  • A background in the CleanTech industry.
  • Designed products that deal with plumbing, water flow, and fluid dynamics.
  • Expertise in at least one design tool—SolidWorks, Altium, Agile/Arena, or something similar.
  • Experience working in the HVAC industry is a plus.
  • Experience with Building Controls Automation.
