Role: Head of Marketing and Brand

Location: New York City (Hybrid: 2–3 days/week in office)


Our client is a globally recognized, founder-led leadership and personal development business built around a bestselling author and speaker with a large international audience. Over the past decade, the company has evolved into a multi-channel platform spanning digital courses, subscriptions, speaking engagements, and enterprise relationships.


The business has historically generated meaningful recurring revenue through its course and subscription products, supported by a large owned audience and strong brand equity. Recently, the company has undergone structural and operational changes, including a shift in revenue streams and a reset of its marketing infrastructure, creating both urgency and opportunity.


With fresh capital on the balance sheet and a lean, high-caliber team in place, the company is now entering a rebuild phase—focused on restoring its acquisition engine, modernizing its brand, and transitioning from a pure personal-brand model into a more scalable platform-driven business. This role will sit at the center of that transformation.


Position Overview:

They are seeking a Head of Marketing and Brand to rebuild and lead the company’s marketing function end-to-end. This is a foundational, 0→1 leadership role responsible for both brand and performance—owning everything from creative direction and content systems to paid acquisition and funnel optimization.


The mandate is twofold: elevate the brand to a world-class standard while simultaneously rebuilding a broken acquisition engine and restoring subscription revenue. This individual will operate as a hands-on builder in the near term, with the opportunity to hire and scale a team over time.


This role requires someone who can operate independently in ambiguity, partner closely with a high-profile founder, and drive measurable business outcomes quickly.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Rebuild the paid acquisition engine from scratch, including strategy, channel mix, attribution, and performance tracking
  • Own and evolve the brand identity, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with founder vision
  • Lead a full website overhaul and ongoing optimization
  • Build and operationalize a multi-channel content engine (social, email, video, and emerging platforms)
  • Develop and execute lifecycle marketing strategies across acquisition, retention, and upsell
  • Establish analytics and reporting infrastructure (CAC, LTV, funnel performance, attribution)
  • Manage and optimize external vendors, agencies, and production partners
  • Oversee content capture and production tied to live events and speaking engagements
  • Build audience infrastructure and go-to-market strategy for a major upcoming book launch
  • Hire and lead a small, high-performing marketing team over time


Qualifications:

What makes you a strong fit:

  • 7–12 years of marketing experience with at least one role owning the function end-to-end
  • Proven experience building or rebuilding marketing systems from the ground up (not just optimizing existing ones)
  • Demonstrated strength across both brand and performance marketing
  • Experience in a founder-led, creator, or personal-brand-driven business and/or subscription-based or D2C environment
  • Deep understanding of funnel mechanics, paid acquisition, and marketing analytics (CAC, LTV, attribution)
  • Strong creative judgment and brand sensibility, with the ability to partner directly with a founder
  • Track record of operating independently in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
  • Experience managing agencies and external partners
  • Based in NYC or willing to relocate


Not a fit if you:

  • Specialize only in brand/creative or only in performance/growth (this role requires both)
  • Prefer structured environments with established teams, budgets, and roadmaps
  • Are actively building a personal brand, content business, or audience on the side
  • Lack experience in founder-led or fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Require significant oversight or direction to operate effectively
