Job Title: Senior-Level Solder Technician

Position Overview:

This advanced hands-on technician role supports high-reliability electronics manufacturing by applying expert soldering techniques across a variety of complex components and assemblies. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole soldering methods, with a strong emphasis on meeting rigorous quality standards. The ideal technician will bring deep familiarity with industry certifications, microscopic inspection, and precision hand-tool work in a cleanroom-style, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-complexity soldering using Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Through-Hole techniques to Class III standards.
  • Assemble electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) using detailed work instructions, schematics, and magnification tools.
  • Visually inspect solder joints and assemblies under microscope (10x or higher) and correct defects as necessary.
  • Prepare and clean PCBs before and after soldering using specialized tools and equipment.
  • Build and repair microelectronic devices and intricate wiring harnesses.
  • Install and align parts, subassemblies, and hardware using hand tools and small power tools.
  • Conduct rework and component replacement on existing boards, including complex pad, trace, and plating repairs.
  • Operate preparation machinery for through-hole component insertion and soldering.
  • Maintain soldering equipment, including hot plates, soldering irons, tweezers, microscopes, and hot air tools.
  • Interpret technical documents with minimal supervision and execute tasks with precision.
  • Perform final inspections to ensure compliance with IPC and customer standards.
  • Track work progress and document performance using digital tools.

Core Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience soldering SMT and THT components to high-reliability (Class III) industry standards.
  • Knowledge of techniques including tack-and-reflow, flood-and-wick, solder bridge correction, and tweezer method.
  • Skilled in handling common PCB assembly issues including delamination, lifted pads, and damaged conductors.
  • Experience with component polarity checks, installation, and rework without causing damage to boards or parts.
  • Familiarity with precision mechanical assembly, cabling, board prep, and application of conformal coatings or sprays.
  • Able to identify a broad range of electronic components and read assembly blueprints and production documentation.
  • Responsible for contributing to continuous improvement and communicating technical issues to teammates.
  • Committed to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area, and enforcing ESD and safety procedures.

Preferred Credentials:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience soldering and assembling printed circuit boards in a manufacturing or repair setting.
  • Current or recent IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 Class III certifications preferred (must obtain within 30 days if not current).
  • Solid grasp of component identification systems, including resistor color codes and mechanical fasteners.
  • Competency in reading technical drawings and navigating digital documentation systems.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

This role involves regular physical activity throughout each shift. Tasks may include:

  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Kneeling, crawling, crouching, and bending to reach components.
  • Lifting or moving materials up to 60 pounds.
  • Performing fine-motor tasks under a microscope for extended periods.
  • Engaging in repetitive movements with hands and arms.
  • Using warehouse or production equipment and basic hand tools.
  • Operating computers for documentation and communication.

Work Environment:

The role is based in a well-maintained, temperature-controlled production environment that prioritizes cleanliness, safety, and team collaboration. Workspaces are individually assigned and equipped with appropriate tools and protective measures.

Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional weekend availability based on production needs.
