Position Title: In-Process Quality Inspector – Electronics Manufacturing

Position Overview:


This hands-on quality assurance role is critical to ensuring that products meet defined specifications throughout the production process. The In-Process Inspector performs detailed inspections of printed circuit assemblies, wire harnesses, box builds, and raw materials. Using industry-standard tools and methodologies, the inspector identifies defects and ensures conformance to documentation and workmanship standards. This role may also include rework soldering of both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole (THT) components.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct real-time inspection of electronic assemblies and related hardware during manufacturing.
  • Evaluate documentation for completeness and compliance with inspection protocols.
  • Review and interpret work instructions and engineering specifications.
  • Utilize optical inspection tools such as magnifiers, mantis scopes, calipers, and loupes.
  • Operate Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment as needed.
  • Perform precision rework soldering on SMT and through-hole assemblies as required.
  • Record inspection results into digital tracking systems with accuracy.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, leads, and quality personnel to address quality issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and compliance in accordance with safety and ESD protocols.


Core Qualifications:

  • Skilled in visual inspection using magnification aids including microscopes and optical viewers.
  • Familiar with industry standards such as IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and J-STD workmanship criteria.
  • Competent in precision soldering and touch-up of electronic components (SMT/THT).
  • Able to read and follow detailed work instructions, process sheets, and engineering drawings.
  • Familiar with quality systems, documentation, and inspection data entry.
  • Comfortable working both independently and in collaborative team settings.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying quality issues and contributing to resolution efforts.
  • Experience inspecting printed circuit assemblies, cable harnesses, and final units.
  • Proficient in recognizing component markings, orientation, and polarity.
  • Able to train or assist new team members as needed.
  • Maintains an organized and clean work area, adhering to safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Follows all ESD and safety requirements for handling sensitive components.
  • Proficient in English communication (verbal and written) and digital documentation.


Preferred Experience & Credentials:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electronic inspection or production.
  • At least 1 year performing First Article inspections per AS9102 requirements.
  • Prior exposure to ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, and other regulatory standards preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience with soldering and rework of small-format electronics.
  • Working knowledge of AOI, X-ray inspection equipment, and electronic ERP or MES systems.
  • Basic arithmetic, computer literacy, and mechanical aptitude are essential.


Physical & Operational Requirements:

This role requires physical flexibility and endurance to support continuous inspection and documentation activities. Tasks may include:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and occasional sitting based on work assignments.
  • Climbing steps or ladders and transitioning between workstations.
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching at multiple heights.
  • Carrying and moving tools, components, or devices up to 60 pounds.
  • Performing repetitive tasks with hands, wrists, and arms under close visual inspection.
  • Pushing or pulling carts, parts, or test equipment across the production floor.
  • Regular computer use for inspection documentation and digital review.


Work Environment:

The work is performed in a temperature-controlled, clean, and well-lit production facility with clearly defined safety and cleanliness standards. The environment encourages a team-based, detail-focused culture where individual workspaces are provided. Background music is provided via overhead audio systems to maintain a productive and positive atmosphere.

Standard hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with occasional weekend shifts based on production priorities.
