Job Title: Senior Portfolio Accountant

Reports To: Controller

Location: San Francisco Bay Area (Hybrid / Onsite TBD)


The Opportunity

A privately held commercial real estate investment and development firm is seeking to add a Senior Portfolio Accountant to its growing accounting and finance team. This role will work closely with the Controller and support the accounting and reporting for a diversified real estate investment portfolio.

This position offers strong exposure across investment accounting, financial reporting, audit coordination, and portfolio-level financial analysis, providing an excellent growth opportunity for professionals looking to advance their real estate accounting careers.

The ideal candidate will have experience working across multiple accounting bases (tax, GAAP/accrual, and cash), and demonstrate the ability to independently review financial information for accuracy and completeness.


Key Responsibilities

• Review third-party property management financial reporting and accounting records

• Prepare financial reporting for investment entities in accordance with applicable accounting standards

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts

• Prepare balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports

• Assist with preparation of audit and tax support schedules and coordinate with external accountants

• Analyze financial performance and prepare ad hoc reporting for management

• Support capital funding requests including loan and equity draw analysis

• Collaborate with asset management and development teams on short-term cash forecasting

• Respond to lender and investor financial inquiries in a timely and professional manner

• Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

• Approximately 5+ years of commercial real estate accounting experience preferred

• Strong understanding of GAAP, tax basis, and cash basis reporting

• Experience with real estate accounting systems (Yardi preferred; QuickBooks a plus)

• Advanced Excel skills

• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills

• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
