Position Overview:

The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing core accounting operations while serving as a key resource for project-related financial management. This role will lead the close process, support accurate financial reporting, and provide meaningful analysis around project costs, revenue, forecasts, and profitability. The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting foundation, sound judgment, and the ability to improve processes in a fast-paced environment.


Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3-4 Days In-Office)

Base Salary: $90k - $110k


Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the monthly close cycle and ensure the timely preparation of accurate financial statements.
  • Prepare, post, and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Analyze operating results against budget and prior periods, identifying trends and explaining variances.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, company policies, and established accounting procedures.
  • Support external audits, quarterly reviews, and requests from auditors or advisors.
  • Manage financial activity for ongoing projects, including cost tracking, revenue allocation, and margin performance.
  • Review project costs across labor, materials, and third-party vendors to ensure proper reporting.
  • Develop and maintain project forecasts, including completion status, remaining costs, and expected profitability.
  • Apply appropriate revenue recognition methodologies based on project activity and accounting guidance.
  • Partner with operational stakeholders to validate project updates, assess risks, and revise financial projections.
  • Monitor and enhance internal controls across accounting and operational workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen reporting, and increase efficiency.
  • Drive automation initiatives that improve accuracy, consistency, and turnaround times.
  • Collaborate with leadership and business partners to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Present financial results, risks, and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and project accounting experience.
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting, cost-to-complete forecasting, and profitability analysis strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and project-based accounting principles.
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to work with large data sets and perform detailed analysis.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
