CFO at a Nonprofit Serving Military Families
Location: Remote, with regular travel to the DC-area

Our client is a long-standing, mission-driven 501(c)(3) organization providing life-changing financial support to families of fallen service members. Since 9/11, they have provided almost 9-figures of aid to 3000+ Gold Star families and are poised for growth in an effort to amplify their impact.
The Opportunity:
This nonprofit is seeking a seasoned CFO to serve as a strategic right hand to the CEO who brings a private-sector mindset to nonprofit finance. This leader will act as a CFO+, overseeing all aspects of finance, accounting, HR, and IT to help the organization achieve its ambitious growth goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organizational Leadership
- Partner closely with the CEO on strategic financial and operational matters
- Produce and present financial reporting to the CEO, Chairman, and Board
- Represent the organization in conversations with banks, auditors, and financial institutions
- Champion a culture of measurement, meritocracy, and operational discipline
- Financial Management
- Oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, audit, cash flow, and compliance
- Produce monthly reports with insightful MD&A
- Lead reporting on key development and program KPIs
- Manage banking, investments, and financial risk
- Drive financial literacy and accountability across the organization
- Human Resources
- Oversee HR operations including payroll, benefits, onboarding, performance management, and compliance across multiple states
- Manage annual benefits renewals and retirement plan administration
- Technology & Systems
- Oversee IT operations and manage a Salesforce and Sage Intacct tech stack
- Ensure data integrity, reporting efficiency, and cybersecurity protocols
- Evaluate and implement tools that improve internal productivity
- Programs & Grants
- Provide financial oversight of grant-making activities
- Ensure compliance with internal SOPs and external standards
- Conduct audits of high-dollar grants to ensure accuracy and compliance
Required experience:
- Prior experience as a senior financial executive, preferably a CFO.
- Prior responsibility for IT and HR functions.
- Extensive private sector experience (nonprofit experience welcome but limited).

Demonstrated success in fast-paced, high-performance environments.

Strong communication skills; can explain the "why" and "so what" behind the numbers.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field.
Preferred qualifications:

FP&A and public accounting background

Experience managing federal grants

Experience with Sage Intacct and Salesforce
