Inventory Auditor

The Inventory Auditor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, accountability, and integrity of all inventory assets managed by the City Council. This role supports financial transparency and operational efficiency by conducting audits, reconciling discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with municipal policies and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities

Conduct regular physical inventory audits across city departments (e.g., public works, parks & recreation, utilities, administrative offices).

Reconcile physical counts with inventory records and financial systems.

Investigate and report discrepancies, including shortages, overages, and damaged goods.

Review inventory control procedures and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Ensure compliance with municipal regulations, internal policies, and audit standards.

Maintain accurate documentation of audit findings and prepare detailed audit reports for leadership.

Collaborate with procurement, finance, and departmental staff to ensure proper inventory tracking.

Monitor high-value or sensitive assets and ensure proper safeguarding procedures are followed.

Support annual financial audits and provide required documentation to external auditors.

Assist in implementing inventory management systems and best practices.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

2–5 years of experience in inventory auditing, accounting, or asset management (public sector experience preferred).

Strong knowledge of inventory control procedures and audit methodologies.

Proficiency in ERP or inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or municipal systems).

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, reconciliations, data analysis).

High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple audits simultaneously.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in government or municipal environments.

Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Familiarity with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
