BACKGROUND
The Pac-12 stands at a defining moment in its history. Founded in 1915, the league's rich legacy of athletic and academic excellence spans over 100 years. Supported by world-class service and empowerment, Pac-12 student-athletes have earned more than 500 NCAA team championships. Now with a renewed and bold vision for its future, the Pac-12 has undergone significant transformation on its journey to launching a new collegiate athletics conference, custom-built for both the modern-day student-athlete and an evolving college sports landscape. Under the leadership of Commissioner Teresa Gould, the Pac-12 embarks on creating a new legacy, composed of nine member universities, a one-of-its-kind and state-of-the-art broadcast production facility in San Ramon, CA., and a reimagined commercial enterprise that is uniquely positioned to drive strategic partnerships, brand enhancement, revenue generation and other growth opportunities to unlock new and lasting value for both its member universities and its student-athletes. Currently composed of Oregon State University and Washington State University, the league will welcome seven new full members beginning with the 2026-27 season, including Boise State University, Colorado State University, California State University, Fresno, Gonzaga University, San Diego State University, Texas State University and Utah State University.
SUMMARY
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a dynamic and visionary leader, playing a critical role in aligning technology strategy with the Pac-12’s mission and vision. This role oversees all aspects of technology, blending strategic leadership with hands-on operational oversight. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the CTO has a unique opportunity as a passionate sports-and-tech-savvy leader to shape the digital and broadcast future of college athletics, ensuring the Pac-12 remains at the forefront of innovation, fan engagement, and operational excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technology Leadership & Strategy
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for all Pac-12 technology operations including broadcast engineering, IT systems, production technologies, digital platforms, cyber security, data governance, and infrastructure.
- Lead data analysis strategy and establish data as a strategic business asset
- Develop and execute the long-term technology roadmap for the Conference and its commercial and media operations.
- Drive innovation across digital platforms, broadcast production, live streaming, and fan-facing technology.
- Align technology initiatives with the strategic goals of the Conference.
- Develop and drive new products and services that help expand the Pac-12’s technology portfolio that delivers value to the Conference and its member institutions.
Engineering & Broadcast Operations
- Oversee the engineering team and function for live and recorded broadcasts across multiple platforms.
- Ensure broadcast and production technologies meet industry standards in reliability, quality, and scalability.
- Manage all infrastructure and systems related to in-venue and remote production, including IP-based workflows, cloud services, and control rooms.
- Help transform Enterprises business model from a production to a technology company
Digital Media & Fan Engagement
- Lead development of digital products, mobile applications, DTC and OTT experiences to enhance fan engagement.
- Partner with digital content and marketing teams to optimize technology for storytelling and interactivity.
- Develop and execute a technical strategy around alternative distribution channels including FAST/AVOD/SVOD/&PVOD.
Infrastructure & Cloud Computing
- Propose and execute cloud infrastructure strategies that leverage on-prem, cloud, and hybrid workflows to support current and future requirements.
- Implement infrastructure assessment strategies that help drive architecture changes where appropriate to remain at the forefront of technology best practices.
Team Leadership & Technology Partnerships
- Foster a culture of inclusion, collaboration and continuous learning while building, mentoring, and leading a cross-functional technical team including engineers, IT specialists, and media technologists.
- Build and manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, third party service providers, and broadcast partners to ensure high-quality, cost-effective solutions
- Propose and deliver technology partnerships that advances the delivery of Pac-12’s technical roadmap that benefits the Pac-12, member institutions, and technology partners.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure data security, broadcast rights integrity, and compliance with NCAA and institutional policies.
- Oversee cybersecurity protocols and continuity plans for media and operational systems.
- Conduct regular operational readiness reviews with networking, systems, and IT teams to ensure disaster recovery plans meet industry best practices and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, preferably within sports, media, or entertainment environments.
- Deep expertise in advanced broadcast production systems, live event engineering, and digital media platforms.
- Demonstrated success implementing cloud-based infrastructure, IP workflows, and enterprise technology modernization.

Strong operational acumen with a track record of improving workflow efficiency and scaling technology operations.
- Experience leading cross-functional and geographically dispersed technical teams.
- Proven ability to manage cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and data governance frameworks.
- Passion for collegiate athletics and understanding of NCAA compliance and media rights environments.
- Bachelors Degree in computer science, digital technology or a related field (advanced degree or technical certifications preferred).
- Familiarity with emerging technologies including AI, AR/VR, and remote/cloud-based production environments.
