Our client is a growing enterprise with multiple operating entities, seeking a highly skilled Controller to oversee and elevate all aspects of their financial operations. This is a vital role that ensures the owner and leadership team are equipped with accurate, timely financial insight to drive strong decision-making across the business.
As Controller, you will serve as both a financial steward and strategic advisor, responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions while providing big-picture financial clarity. You’ll own reporting processes and serve as the central hub for financial activity across all locations. Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Provide timely, detailed reporting to support the owner in making confident business decisions
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, accounts receivable, and bank accounts monthly
- Prepare and post journal entries for all entities
- Perform monthly cost of sales reconciliations and deferred sales entries
- Manage intercompany transactions and eliminating entries for consolidated financials
- Conduct quarterly corporate merchandise inventories and property reconciliation
- Prepare and distribute monthly AR reports and lead AR collection efforts
Cash & Treasury Management
- Oversee all aspects of cash flow management
- Handle bank reconciliations and maintain covenant compliance reporting
- Serve as liaison with banking partners; prepare financial packages for underwriting and loans
- Oversee all owner distributions and support insurance underwriting requirements
Accounts Payable & Invoicing
- Review, code, and approve vendor invoices for timely weekly check runs
- Supervise DECA invoicing process
- Reconcile company credit card transactions
- Approve and code all benefits-related invoicing
Payroll & HR Accounting
- Approve payroll and manage accruals for PTO and sick time
- Prepare management overtime reporting
- Administer medical reimbursement program
- Oversee 401(k) plan contributions, compliance testing, and Form 5500 filing
- Liaise with external payroll providers, auditors, and third-party administrators
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare sales tax filings across multiple locations
- Handle personal property tax filings and respond to census requests
- Coordinate with CPA firm on tax returns, quarterly estimates, and audits
- Prepare IRS Form 720 for self-funded medical insurance
- Manage annual workers’ compensation payroll audit
- Oversee all licensing and Arizona Corporation Commission renewals
Systems & Tools
- Reconcile accounting system data with Computer Management Systems (CMS)
- Ensure QuickBooks Enterprise is used to its full capacity
- Build and maintain Excel-based financial models and reporting tools
- Ensure merchant account and membership compliance
Legal & Governance
- Serve as liaison to attorney for corporate minutes
- Support annual licensing, renewals, and documentation across all jurisdictions
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of full-scope accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity environment
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise and Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling, etc.)
- Meticulous attention to detail, high integrity, and exceptional organizational skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines
- Comfortable being the financial “go-to” for both strategic and tactical needs
- Experience working with external auditors, CPAs, and legal counsel preferred
- Knowledge of sales tax, payroll, benefits accounting, and 401(k) administration
