This Staff-level role sits at the core of the backend platform. It is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous systems problems, shaping architecture, and setting technical direction while remaining hands-on in the codebase.

The Engineering Challenge

The platform processes large volumes of financial data and enforces intricate regulatory rules across federal, state, and agency levels. Backend systems must be highly reliable, extensible, and capable of evolving as regulations and business needs change.

As a Staff Engineer, you will influence how these systems are designed and scaled. You will help define patterns, guide technical decisions, and ensure the platform remains resilient as usage and complexity grow. The technical foundation includes Python-based backend services, cloud-native infrastructure, containerized deployments, and modern orchestration running on Google Cloud.

What You Will Own

• Lead the design and evolution of backend architecture supporting large-scale, regulated financial workflows
• Build and refine core services that handle high-value transactions and complex business logic
• Translate regulatory requirements into scalable, maintainable backend systems
• Partner closely with product and design leaders to align technical solutions with customer and business needs
• Set technical standards and influence engineering best practices across the team
• Act as a trusted technical resource for other engineers, helping unblock complex problems and guide system design decisions

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep backend systems expertise
• Strong background designing and scaling distributed systems in production environments
• Demonstrated ability to architect systems from the ground up and evolve them over time
• Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating across functions
• Ability to manage priorities effectively in a fast-moving, startup-style environment
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline preferred
