Engineering Manager (MSP)
Location: Cornelius, NC (On-Site)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $105,000 – $130,000

About the Role
We are a well-established Managed Services Provider serving small and mid-sized businesses throughout the Carolinas. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead execution quality, escalation management, and technical accountability across our engineering team.
This is a hands-on leadership role, not a Director of Technology position. Strategic direction, vendor selection, and service design are defined elsewhere. The Engineering Manager ensures engineering execution meets established standards and that senior leadership is not required to serve as the technical backstop.
Role Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Accountability
- Own day-to-day execution of engineering work across projects, escalations, and complex client environments
- Lead, coach, and develop senior engineers and technical leads
- Set performance expectations and address underperformance when necessary
- Reduce reliance on executive leadership for technical arbitration
Standards & Quality Control
- Enforce engineering standards consistently across all client environments
- Review and approve non-standard designs and exception requests
- Identify and mitigate technical risk before issues become client-facing
Escalation & Delivery Oversight
- Serve as final internal escalation point for complex engineering issues
- Ensure projects and major changes meet quality, security, and documentation standards
- Partner with Operations to improve throughput, predictability, and margin protection
Documentation & Process Discipline
- Ensure engineering work is properly documented within IT Glue
- Reinforce documentation as a required deliverable
- Improve repeatability and reduce custom, one-off implementations
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience in MSP or complex infrastructure environments
- 5+ years in senior technical leadership (Lead Engineer, Engineering Manager, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience managing and coaching engineers
- Proven ability to enforce standards and handle difficult conversations
- Strong expertise in Microsoft-centric environments (Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Azure fundamentals)
- Experience operating within structured MSP toolsets

ConnectWise Manage, ScreenConnect, IT Glue
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior MSP leadership experience
- Experience serving as final escalation authority
- Strong documentation discipline
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft, networking, or security (preferred but not required)
