Vale Group has partnered with a respected organization in the legal industry, with offices in both Portland, OR and Seattle, WA, who is actively seeking a strategic Chief Information Officer to work onsite from either location. This critical executive role offers a compensation range of $300,000 to $400,000, depending on experience, plus incentives. The ideal candidate will bring deep leadership experience in legal IT environments, with a focus on information governance, secure legal operations, enterprise document management systems, and risk mitigation strategies across multi-office platforms.


Requirements of the Chief Information Officer:

● Minimum of 15 years of progressive IT leadership, including 5+ years at the executive level (CIO, CTO, or equivalent). VP-level at a much larger organization will be considered.

● Strong background in the legal industry, preferably in a multi-office environment

● Proven success managing enterprise document management systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocuments) and legal-specific platforms

● Expertise in information security, compliance, eDiscovery, and risk management frameworks

● Track record of modernizing legacy systems, leading cloud migrations, and managing legal operations platforms

● Exceptional communication and leadership skills to align IT strategy with the needs of legal professionals, support staff, and executive leadership

● Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s or JD is a plus - not required)

● Familiarity with legal tech tools (e.g., Aderant, Intapp, Litera) and compliance standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST)


Responsibilities of the Chief Information Officer:

● Develop and execute an enterprise-wide IT strategy tailored to the unique operational and compliance needs of the legal industry

● Oversee all technology infrastructure and application environments, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance

● Drive firm-wide initiatives in cybersecurity, data protection, and information governance in alignment with client confidentiality and legal obligations

● Optimize document management systems, workflow automation, and knowledge management tools used across legal teams

● Lead and mentor an IT department supporting attorneys, legal operations, and administrative staff across multiple offices

● Direct budget planning, IT procurement, and vendor management to ensure cost-effective and scalable technology decisions

● Collaborate with legal operations and practice group leaders to support case management, client engagement tools, and billing platforms

● Ensure disaster recovery, business continuity, and compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks
