THE ROLE

Our client is a publicly listed organization headquartered in Burnaby, BC, operating in a dynamic and growing sector. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leadership team and play a key role in supporting the company’s continued growth and public company obligations.


Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Finance will be responsible for leading corporate accounting, external financial reporting under IFRS, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). This role will oversee core accounting functions, ensure timely and accurate public company reporting, and provide financial insight to support strategic and operational decision-making.

 

The successful candidate will be a hands-on finance leader who is comfortable operating in a public company environment, partnering with senior leadership, and mentoring a high-performing finance team.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
  • Oversee general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial controls
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and best practices
  • Oversee the preparation and review of external financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Lead quarterly and annual public company reporting, including MD&A and supporting schedules
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and manage the year-end audit process
  • Monitor and implement new accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes
  • Provide variance analysis, financial modeling, and performance insights to senior leadership
  • Partner with business leaders to support strategic initiatives, investment decisions, and operational improvements
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the corporate accounting and FP&A teams
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration
  • Support talent development, succession planning, and performance management
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and data quality
  • Support financial systems, reporting tools, and automation initiatives
  • Contribute to special projects, including M&A, system implementations, or organizational growth initiatives


QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA designation required
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership roles
  • Strong experience in a publicly listed company environment and external financial reporting (IFRS)
  • Proven experience overseeing FP&A, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Background in audit (Big 4 or mid-tier) is an asset
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with ERP systems required
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and detailed levels
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
