Position Overview:

The Source and Recruit Company has been exclusively retained to assist Pratt Vreeland Kennelly Martin & White, Ltd. in recruiting a senior-level Of Counsel attorney. This role is designed for a self-driven, entrepreneurial attorney who thrives in a small-firm setting with significant autonomy and client-facing responsibilities.

With the recent retirement of senior partners, there is a substantial caseload and established book of business ready to transition to the right candidate. The position offers a direct path to partnership, potentially achievable within the first year, along with the opportunity to work across a broad spectrum of general civil practice areas.

Responsibilities:

The scope of work will be influenced by the candidate’s experience and interests but is expected to include:

  • Business and commercial transactions, including commercial leases, entity formation, business sales, and secured transactions
  • General corporate counsel for small businesses and LLCs
  • Estate planning and probate administration
  • Civil litigation including small claims, mid-size commercial disputes, and creditor representation in bankruptcy proceedings
  • Real estate transactions, including residential purchases, sales, and refinancing
  • Neighbor disputes, including boundary and adverse possession matters
  • Residential evictions and landlord/tenant law
  • Opportunity to continue limited practice in criminal or family law if candidate has relevant experience, as client needs arise

 

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and active license to practice in Vermont (or eligibility to waive in)
  • Minimum 3 years of post-law school legal experience
  • Demonstrated strength in corporate and transactional law; trial or litigation experience is a plus
  • Self-starter with a proactive approach to managing a varied caseload
  • High ethical standards and a professional demeanor in both practice and community presence
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an appreciation for collaborative decision-making
  • Comfort working in-office, particularly during the first year for mentorship and team engagement

 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary of $80,000 with structured bonus tied to collections (Year One OTE: $100,000–$120,000+ annually)
  • Clear pathway to partnership (typically within 1 year), with partnership requiring 1200 collected billable hours annually (~$300,000 in revenue)
