Job Description

 

SUMMARY

The Maintenance Foreman – Fixed Plant leads the salaried and hourly employees in maintenance activities of fixed plant and HVAC equipment and facilities both on the surface and underground, with mechanical support provided to other areas as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·       Understand the Mine Safety and Health Management System and lead employees in safe work practices.

·       Oversee the work of the Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC groups.

·       Understand, communicate and administer the site and department tech progression policies, including overseeing the training and advancement of hourly Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC employees.

·       Understand, communicate, and administer the Hourly Incentive Program (HIP) and manage hourly Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC employees to the goals of the program.

·       Ensure Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC efficiencies and performance in cooperation with Mine Operations.

·       Work effectively with the Maintenance Planners, and Mine and Mill management to meet immediate and long-term Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC requirements and objectives in support of production goals.

·       Planning, scheduling, and oversight of the execution of preventive maintenance.

·       Manage fixed plant shutdowns, minimizing impact to the property.

·       Manage emergency repairs to fixed plant and HVAC infrastructure.

·       Manage the Company Maintenance Work Management Process for Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC.

·       Continuously seek ways to improve the ease of maintenance, reliability and availability of the equipment using both formal and informal Reliability Engineering techniques.

·       Manage and coordinate contract maintenance on fixed plant equipment for both on-site and off-site contract work.

·       Ensure Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC employees are complying with the preventive maintenance schedule.

·       Ensure the right quantities of equipment spare parts are available at the right time.

·       Assign work orders to employees, set and maintain high standards for safety, quality, and quantity of work performed. Follow up throughout the shift to ensure performance standards are being met.

·       Participate in and/or facilitate Risk Assessment activities as required.

·       Participate in and/or facilitate the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as required.

·       Inspect daily operations and projects in process and upon completion to ensure the quality and reliability of work performed.

·       Ensure all required paperwork is completed to the required standard, including shift reports, requests for materials, timecards, etc.

·       Continually seek to reduce risks and improve safety outcomes.

·       Attend meetings as required, including training and department meetings.

·       Perform activities of hourly employees supervised, per the collective bargaining agreement, in the case of an emergency, when necessary to instruct employees in their duties, for minor work that is unreasonable to assign to a bargaining unit employee, or to provide training for salaried personnel.   

·       Work and communicate effectively with other members of the Maintenance department and all other mine site departments.

·       Follow and understand MSHA rules and regulations, environmental rules and regulations, SOP and work area instructions, participate in safety and environmental activities. Lead by example by adhering to rules and regulations and ensuring compliance to rules and regulations established by the Mine.

·       Must be willing to comply with all company policies and procedures.

  • Comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations and Company environmental policies. Conduct activities and work in an environmentally responsible manner. Is aware of procedures to minimize impacts to the environment.

Directly supervises Fixed Plant Maintenance and HVAC department employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company's policies, applicable laws, and the bargaining agreement. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Participate in employee relations/disciplinary meetings as required, including grievance meetings for hourly employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

·       High School Diploma. 

·       Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or technical/vocational certification preferred. 

  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in maintenance.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in fixed plant maintenance required.
  • Experience in mine hoisting systems preferred.
  • Good understanding of underground mining operations required.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Familiarity with IFS business system preferred.

 

TRAINING OR SPECIAL SKILLS

·       Strong oral and written communication and problem-solving skills.

·       Ability to work with others in a team environment.

·       Must possess a valid driver’s license.

·       Formal training in the principles of equipment reliability engineering preferred.

·       Formal training in maintenance work management and shutdown processes preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, regulators, and the general public.

 

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

ATF possessor’s clearance required.

Must complete MSHA 40-hour training or provide 5000-23 documentation of completed training.

Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
