We hold four reserves (174 hectares) within our traditional territory in Port Renfrew, about 80 km from Victoria, with an estimated 286 members, including roughly 100 living on-reserve.


About the role

Reporting to the Band Manager, and with guidance from our communications consultant team, the Communications & Engagement Coordinator collaborates closely with the management teams across our varied business operations. This role is responsible for leading the communication strategy and its execution for Pacheedaht First Nation, while also assisting in the daily administration. Key duties include helping senior leadership share information with the community, organizing engagement activities, and overseeing both public and internal communications for the Nation.


We are seeking someone who brings a background in communications and marketing, with the ability to deliver clear information to members, develop business marketing strategies, and collaborate with consultants to support the Nation’s growth and brand consistency.


What you will do

As the Communications & Engagement Coordinator for Pacheedaht First Nation, you will:

Government & Community Communications

  • Develop and execute the primary communication plan to ensure Pacheedaht members are consistently informed of government decisions, programs and community updates.
  • Coordinate community meetings, workshops, and engagement events, ensuring all materials are accessible and culturally resonant.
  • Draft and distribute high-quality newsletters, bulletins and digital updates that clearly communicate administrative information for the membership.
  • establish, develop and maintain the official Government communications channels to ensure clear and accurate information.

Business & Enterprise Marketing

  • Partner with the management teams of each business (ie. Pacheedaht Campground, Seafoam Seafoods, and San Juan Market) to create tailored marketing plans that drive growth, improve customer experience and overall brand awareness.
  • Manage the digital presence and promotional campaigns for the Nation’s hospitality and retail assets, including the Pacheedaht Campground and Pit Stop Gas Station.
  • Ensure that all business entities maintain a professional and cohesive visual identity that aligns with the Nation's broader economic goals.

Growth & Capacity Building

  • Work under the guidance of the external communications agency to adopt best practices, utilize modern marketing tools and build long-term internal capacity.
  • Maintain and execute a structured workplan (with oversight from the consultant team) and provide regular reports to the Band Manager on communication reach, opportunities and business growth.
  • Capture photos, videos, and stories from the Nation’s businesses to build a rich library of photos and video content.

 

Lived and learned experience we are seeking

To be the successful candidate for this position, you will have/demonstrate:

  • Education or equivalent: Certificate or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1–2 years of related experience in communications or marketing preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Skills grounded in lived experience: Familiarity in managing social media platforms and website content management systems.
  • Experience creating marketing strategies and promotional "roll-outs" to drive business revenue.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage a workplan across multiple different businesses.
  • A keen eye for design and brand consistency to ensure a professional look for all Nation entities.
  • Proficiency in simple graphic design tools like Canva for creating flyers and ads.
  • Familiarity with project management tools to stay aligned with consultants and the Band Manager.
  •  People & relationships: Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills; skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for hosting community meetings and engaging with Nation members.
  • Indigenous experience: Indigenous lived experience and/or significant experience working with Indigenous communities is strongly valued.
  • Certifications & Checks: Clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector, as required.
