Role Summary
The Retail Finance Analyst sits at the intersection of Finance and Sales, owning analysis of trade spend, promotional performance, and customer-level profitability. This role supports key commercial decisions by evaluating the financial impact of pricing, promotions, and assortment across retail accounts.
This is a finance-first analytical role. While exposure to retail or marketing analytics is beneficial, success is defined by strong financial modeling capability, P&L ownership, and the ability to synthesize data into clear commercial recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Trade Spend & Promotion Analysis
- Own tracking of trade spend versus plan and forecast
- Analyze promotional performance and ROI by customer, channel, and item
- Conduct post-promotional analysis to inform future trade strategy
- Partner with existing retail analytics resources to connect trade and marketing data with financial outcomes
Customer & Channel Profitability
- Support customer-level P&L analysis, including pricing, trade, and mix impacts
- Partner with Sales and Finance on forecasts, accruals, and variance analysis
- Identify margin improvement opportunities tied to pricing, promotions, and assortment
Financial Modeling & Decision Support
- Build and maintain financial models to support commercial decisions
- Translate retail and POS data into clear financial insights for leadership
- Support annual planning and in-year reforecasting
- Support broader FP&A initiatives including budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling as needed
Reporting & Data
- Develop standardized reporting to track key commercial KPIs
- Work with large datasets including POS, shipment, and trade data
- Improve data quality, reporting consistency, and analytical rigor
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in FP&A, investment banking, corporate finance, or commercial finance roles
- Strong Excel-based financial modeling skills
- Experience working with P&Ls, forecasts, and variance analysis
- Ability to communicate financial insights clearly to non-finance partners
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting Sales or Commercial Marketing teams
- Exposure to trade promotion spend and retail economics
- Experience with POS or syndicated data (Nielsen, IRI, etc.)
- Background in a high-growth or entrepreneurial environment
