SUMMARY:

The Geology Manager reports to the Mine General Manager, and the primary role is to manage and oversee all the geological provisions to ensure reserves are available for gold production.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety Requirements

 Strict safety oversight of Geologists and contractors.

 Display a clear commitment to safety and health and seek to eliminate or control the risks of injury and/or damage to equipment.

 Operate in accordance with and comply the Company’s Safety and Health Policy, and with all site policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

 Proactive involvement with continuous OHST improvement processes.

 Ensure any consultants and contractors are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all applicable processes and procedures.

 Actively contribute to site safety and new initiatives as directed by the General Manager.

 Actively promote, monitor and enforce compliance of personnel with safe working practices.

 Active participation in all communication and awareness systems.

Environmental Requirements

 Liaise with Environmental colleagues on all matters regarding permits, habitat and outdoor activity associated with drilling and geology.

 Display a clear commitment to responsible environmental management.

 Develop, implement and maintain environmental management systems and standards for the Operational Geology Group.

 Operate in accordance with the Company’s Environmental Policy, and comply with other site environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

 Manage all activities in a manner that prevents pollution and minimises damage to the natural environment.

 Minimise waste generation through reduced consumption and increased re-use and recycling.

Stakeholder Requirements

 Liaise with visitors when appropriate in a manner that enhances the Company’s activities.

 Foster friendly and professional working relationships with all external Stakeholders/contacts. This includes landholders, members of the local community, contractors, and visitors. 

 Operate in accordance with Company’s Stakeholder Policy.

Specific Departmental Requirements

 Provide clear and supportive leadership to the Operational Geology Group.

 Drive continuous improvement within the Operational Geology Group’s processes and procedures. 

 Actively engage the Operational Geology Group to ensure high levels of performance.

 Ensure Operational Geology Group works closely with Mining Department to deliver reserves for gold production and the Exploration Group to deliver advanced projects through the pipeline. 

 Manage relationships with key contractors and service providers to ensure efficient contract management and delivery of obligations by all parties

 Manage drilling programs in accordance with site schedules and budgets.

 Develop and implement a robust resource growth strategy in line with corporate directives.

 Prepare, manage and report on operating, capital and exploration budgets for the Operational Geology Group on site.

 Ensure direct reports have clearly defined accountabilities, provide feedback on performance and conduct formal performance reviews.

 Assist in implementation and management of NSR’s graduate development initiatives. 

 Prepare upgrade criteria for each non-exempt job classifications, as well as any needed revisions, for approval.

 Provide and monitor training opportunities in an objective process; ensure that training opportunities are made available fairly, consistently and in a manner free from discriminatory bias.

 Review employees’ requests/applications for training based on objective evidence related to job performance, abilities, and interest.

 Document employees’ readiness to train for tasks, noting any operational reasons related to the availability and scheduling of requested training.

 Maintain training records of employees in the department. Monitor training register and log formal training as it occurs.

 Participate in the review of any appeals filed by employees concerning training opportunities.

 Other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications Required

 Degree majoring in Geological Sciences. 

 Membership in internationally recognized professional societies.

 Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience.

 Minimum 5 years’ relevant underground experience in the mining industry.

 Demonstrated achievement in the supervision and administration of a mine-based Geology Team. 

 Cost and budgeting experience.

 Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, LeapFrog, Vulcan, AcQuire, familiarity with current resource modelling practices.

 Good communication skills, written and verbal.

 Current Driver’s License.

 Ability to pass a background check and post-offer physical.

Desired Experience & Competencies

 Extensive knowledge of the key components of Geology practices: stratigraphy, structural geology, geochemistry, geophysical techniques, drilling, drill sampling, geological mapping, sampling, and prospecting. 

 Master’s degree in Geological Sciences.

 Advanced computer skills – Microsoft Office, LeapFrog, Vulcan, AcQuire, resource modelling practices.

 Extensive cost and budgeting experience.

 Demonstrated ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all geological and environmental tasks. Basic understanding of 43-101 and JORC codes.

 Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.

 Takes an active role in Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act practices & regulations.
