You are a strategic and detail-oriented financial professional with a strong background in accounting and financial management. With oversight from the Finance Manager, you thrive in coordinating and planning all aspects of financial operations for the mine site. Your expertise includes preparing financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, while ensuring regulatory compliance and effective financial reporting. You excel at developing and implementing internal controls, policies, and procedures, with a focus on financial risk management. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you contribute to the company’s financial success through your proactive approach and strong communication skills. This is a safety sensitive position. As the Controller you report to the Finance Manager.


Role Duties:


  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  • Research technical accounting issues for memo writing that support accounting for non-routine transactions.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Manage the mine site finance team, a total of 3 direct reports.
  • Ensure mine site transactions are recorded complete.
  • Ensure financial systems and processes are in place and reviewed for process improvement.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing process at the mine.
  • Monitor internal controls and work with Internal Audit / Controls to ensure compliance across regulatory reporting and auditing process. Collaborate with internal and external auditors.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Prepare budget and financial forecasts and report any variances.
  • Have a good understanding of tax compliance.
  • Analyze financial performance, identifying key trends and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain an effective and efficient planning process for the functional areas, including the coordination of planning of the finance calendar with key dates and deliverables.
  • Proactively develop and present analytics to drive financial and operating excellence.
  • Participate in ad hoc analysis and reporting as required by senior finance management.
  • Assist the preparation of management and Board of Director reports and presentations.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership based on financial information
  • Various projects including implementation of new ERP and new forecast and budgeting tools.
  • Additional duties as necessary.


Role Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or College in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
  • CPA designation or working towards it is preferred.
  • Expert level experience in Excel and good knowledge of Continuous Disclosure Management System.
  • 5+ years of finance or accounting experience within the mining industry.
  • IFRS and US GAAP Knowledge.
  • Financial reporting and consolidation experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong MS office skills and financial systems applications.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
