Senior Mine Engineer
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Mine Engineer will lead short and midrange mine planning, ensuring alignment between daily operations and long-term objectives. This role is responsible for developing and overseeing day-to-day, weekly, monthly, and annual mine plans, while also driving improvement, optimization, and option analysis projects across the operation.

Safety & Compliance: Ensure mine engineering activities align with company safety standards, MSHA regulations, and environmental requirements. Promote a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement in safe operating practices.

Mine Planning & Optimization: Lead the development and execution of short- and mid-range mine plans that support long-term objectives. Coordinate weekly and tactical mine planning with Operations and Technical Services to optimize material movement, blending, and production performance.

Design & Scheduling: Develop dump and leach pad designs and manage sequencing to ensure geotechnical stability and environmental compliance. Prepare rolling three-month and annual mine plans, reconcile actuals versus plan, and integrate results into continuous improvement efforts.

Performance Monitoring: Develop and track KPIs to monitor production performance, plan compliance, and cost efficiency. Conduct plan-versus-actual reconciliations, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions to enhance operational effectiveness.

Collaboration & Integration: Work closely with Geology, Operations, and Processing to ensure mine plans deliver consistent mill feed and meet production and metal delivery targets. Support life-of-mine forecasting, budgeting, and optimization studies to align operational performance with strategic objectives.

Leadership & Development: Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across the mine engineering function.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of open-pit mine engineering experience with emphasis on short- and mid-range planning.
- Strong understanding of drill–blast–load–haul sequences and open-pit production processes.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with Mine Operations and Technical Services teams.
- Proficiency in mine planning software (Deswik and/or MineSight preferred).
- Skilled in production forecasting, budgeting, and KPI tracking.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including technical reporting.
- Proven project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred
- Experience in copper mining operations.
- Familiarity with life-of-mine planning, optimization studies, and cost modeling.
- Working knowledge of geotechnical, hydrology, and processing interfaces related to mine planning.
