Senior Environmental Engineer
Job Description
Incumbent will work as part of a team to provide environmental services for a gold mining operation and ancillary facilities. Under the direction of the Environmental Superintendent, will ensure that company activities are conducted in accordance with company requirements and in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and licenses. Will conduct all activities in a safe manner and align performance and daily functions to reflect the Company’s values.
Job Responsibilities
1. Conduct all activities safely, in accordance with the Company’s safety rules and policies, to prevent harm to self and others.
2. Ensure the Company’s compliance with the requirements of environmental permits, licenses, and regulations, focusing on monitoring, recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
3. Effectively communicate with site personnel regarding regulatory obligations.
4. Effectively communicate with regulatory and government agencies, and professional associations, to develop and maintain good working relationships and regulatory compliance.
5. Coordinate and manage environmental projects, including contractor and consultant activities.
6. Complete permitting activities in a timely manner by soliciting and gathering necessary information from affected operational departments, and submitting complete applications, to minimize permitting delays and ensure that company operations and projects are not hindered.
7. Conduct regular inspections, in accordance with the Company’s Environmental Department procedures, of RMGC operations to help ensure regulatory compliance.
8. Monitor proposed environmental regulatory changes with an eye to their effect on operations and demands on resources (personnel, financial).
9. Inform the Manager, Environmental Department, immediately of any compliance or permitting issues that may affect the company.
10. Ensure that departmental and company goals are achieved by participating in short and long-range planning activities.
11. As a member of the department, provide environmental awareness training to site employees.
12. Comply with all company policies and procedures.
13. Meet or exceed the performance expectations established by management.
14. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
15. Perform other functions as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience
1. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering. A Bachelor’s or Master’s in a related scientific or engineering discipline will be considered (e.g., metallurgical, civil or mining engineering; geology, chemistry, hydrology, etc).
2. Previous environmental experience is preferred, and 8 year is preferred for the Senior position. Mining experience is preferred for the Senior position. Work experience at a gold mine is preferred.
3. Experience in Waste, NEPA Permitting, Reclamation, and Air Quality would be assets but is not required.
4. Experienced with system(s)/database(s) established to manage regulatory obligations is preferred but not required.
5. Experience supervising and evaluating the performance of others.
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, regulators/other governmental representatives.
7. Strong organizational and administrative skills.
8. Able to effectively describe environmental regulatory requirements to a diverse workforce.
9. Able to work independently and as part of a team, in cooperation with other departments at RMGC.
10. Experience using the following software:
• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Excel
• Microsoft Access or other database software
• Microsoft Outlook
• Microsoft PowerPoint
11. Preference will be given to experience using the following software:
• “Monitor Pro” or other environmental records/obligations management system
• AutoCAD
• Map 3D or other GIS software
• GoldSim
12. Preference may be given to an individual with working experience in Nevada.
13. Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
14. Must have a valid driver’s license.
