Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct activities targeted toward the identified needs, gaps, opportunities, and barriers with MIFN emergency preparedness.
  • Conduct background research on current emergency management trends, practices within MIFN as well as emergency management systems specifically designed in response to Natural Disaster and Health Emergency events
  • Support MIFN during emergencies through planning, response, and recovery activities
  • Meet with Emergency Management Committee to review or discuss plan development, provide any updates, complete community exercises, and review all-hazards, communication and evacuation plans.
  • Arrange Emergency Management training and plan exercising opportunities for community members and Nation Staff
  • Review existing & non existing service agreements related to emergency management.
  • Network and collaborate with external agencies or organizations in relation to project deliverables and objectives.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of an annual work plan by offering ideas and suggestions for projects relative to the program.
  • Assist with annual reporting.
  • Attend periodic meetings with external organizations and relevant parties.
  • Continually seek training to remain culturally responsible and sensitive to needs of MIFN
  • Submission of detailed, and accurate reports, when required and within scope of requirements.
  • Management of and the completion of activities as outlined within the job description and any other associated workplans.
  • Management of all activities in a timely and culturally sensitive manner

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
  • Ability to work unsupervised with a high level of productivity with the ability to seek and take direction.
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible, manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to think analytically and critically while problem solving to identify specific needs and potential solutions.
  • Ability to manage time and various activities effectively and efficiently while providing quality customer service.
  • Able to develop relationships and this will include strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, collaboration, conflict resolution, and active listening

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Secondary school or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in the field of emergency management, community planning, community service, community infrastructure, resource management, public health, environmental science, or a related field.
