Our client, Farpoint Films Inc. is seeking an accountant to join their team. Farpoint Films is an award-winning film, television and digital media production company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They utilize in-house production and post-production facilities to hand-craft inspiring and creative storytelling.


Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Corporate Accountant is responsible for the full-cycle accounting for Farpoint Films and their associated businesses. They will work with accounting assistants and be cross trained with the production team. The Senior Corporate Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day financial activities of the organization including accounting, reporting, internal controls, audit and adherence to various regulations, financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting and information systems.

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting and Financial Management

· Oversee full-cycle accounting for Farpoint Films and its associated entities, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and compliant with company policies and regulatory requirements.

· Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, receivables, payables, prepaid expenses, capital assets, and deferred development financing.

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (non-consolidated and consolidated), including supporting schedules and working papers.

· Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring timely collections and payments, and proactively addressing overdue accounts and liabilities.

· Conduct monthly analysis and adjustments for prepaid expenses and capital assets, maintaining continuity schedules and ensuring accurate coding of repairs, maintenance, and equipment purchases.

· Responsible for monthly capital asset analysis and adjustments and maintaining the capital asset continuity schedule.

· Manage cash flow projections and monitor reserves to ensure financial stability.

· Oversee the chart of accounts and department codes, ensuring consistency and accuracy.

· Provide training and guidance on accounting systems, policies, and procedures to team members.


Financial Reporting

· Collaborate with production teams to support project accounting, financial planning, and reporting for individual film and media projects.

· Assist in the preparation of management reports, financial analysis, and variance explanations to support strategic decision-making.

· Develop, monitor, and update budgets and forecasts in collaboration with the Director of Finance and production teams.


Audit, Compliance & Controls

· Coordinate and support the year-end audit process, including preparation and review of working papers, schedules, and documentation for external auditors.

· Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific requirements.

· Prepare and assist with the year end non-consolidated and consolidated review engagement financial statements, including preparing supporting documents and working papers.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong balance of education and relevant experience, ideally with 7-8 years in a similar position. A professional accounting designation (CPA) is highly preferred but not required. Candidates without a designation will be considered based on a combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates equivalent competency. As a small team, the organization values flexibility and the ability to step in and assist where needed.


· Post-secondary education in accounting

· Minimum of 7 to 8 years of financial accounting experience in a similar role

· Experience in the entertainment industry would be an asset

· Able to work independently and effectively in a team environment

· Strong communication and organizational skills

· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, detail oriented, and able to meet deadlines

· Strong computer and administrative skills
