We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its finance function and support strategic growth. This role will streamline operations, enhance reporting accuracy, and provide financial insights to guide decision-making. Working closely with the COO and department heads, the Controller will modernize systems, strengthen controls, and help drive profitability across a contractor-heavy, seasonal business.

                                                    

YOUR DAY TO DAY:

  • Lead all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with bank covenants and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee payroll, AP/AR, invoicing, and expense tracking across seasonal and contractor-based operations.
  • Evaluate and restructure the finance department to improve efficiency and eliminate redundancies.
  • Maximize utilization of NetSuite by implementing dashboards, automating reporting, and reducing manual workflows.
  • Formalize internal controls and accounting policies to enhance accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with department heads on project costing and profitability modeling.
  • Support geographic expansion initiatives with financial modeling and contractor margin analysis.
  • Provide financial insights to the COO and executive team to guide operational and strategic decisions.
  • Manage and mentor the finance team, including performance assessments and personnel recommendations.
  • Lead change management efforts to align staff with best practices and company goals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with external partners including MNP (accounting firm), National Bank, and benefit providers.
  • Prepare and present quarterly financial reports and covenant updates to financial institutions.

 

  • WHAT YOU BRING:
  • CPA designation Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of project-based accounting, revenue recognition, and cost control.
  • Experience with payroll systems and government remittances (HST, WSIB, etc.).
  • Minimum 5–7 years in a senior accounting or controller role.
  • Prior experience in construction, contractor-heavy, or seasonal service industries strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive change, and manage cross-functional relationships.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and high-end clients.
  • High integrity, reliability, and accountability.
  • Onsite presence required—remote work is not permitted.
  • Comfortable working in a blue-collar, hands-on environment with seasonal fluctuations.
