Data Engineer
Gloucester | up to £53,000 + benefits | Hybrid: 2 days on site
We’re hiring a Data Engineer for a Gloucester-based organisation building a modern Azure data platform. If you enjoy turning messy, siloed data into clean, reliable datasets and you’re confident with Azure services and SQL this is worth a look.
What you'll be doing
- Build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure (e.g. Data Factory/Synapse/Storage).
- Model data for analytics and reporting; ensure quality, lineage and reliability.
- Write, optimise and tune T-SQL (views, procedures, performance).
- Automate data ingestion from APIs, apps and third-party sources.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and improve pipeline performance and cost.
- Partner with analysts and product/IT to deliver trustworthy datasets.
- Contribute to platform direction; explore/introduce Microsoft Fabric where useful.
What you’ll bring
- Solid SQL engineering skills and performance tuning experience.
- Hands-on with Azure data services (ADF, Synapse, Azure SQL/Storage, DevOps/Git).
- ETL/ELT best practice, data modelling (star/snowflake), testing and documentation.
- Comfortable working across security, access, and governance basics.
Nice to have: Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Python, Databricks/dbt, CI/CD for data.
