The Mission to Seafarers is one of the maritime sector’s most trusted global charities providing hope, care and practical support to 1.89 million seafarers and their families through a network spanning over 200 ports worldwide. They are now seeking an exceptional maritime leader to become the next Chair of the Board of Trustees, guiding the organisation into its next chapter as they shape their five-year strategy.

For 170 years, The Mission has stood alongside seafarers and their families with practical support, advocacy, and compassionate care, irrespective of faith or background. Their ambition remains simple and demanding: that every seafarer and their family can experience wellbeing, dignity and the chance to thrive.

The opportunity

As Chair, you will provide clear leadership to an engaged and high-calibre Board, working closely with the Secretary General and global teams to ensure The Mission is well governed, financially resilient, and relentlessly true to its purpose.

What you’ll bring

They are looking for an experienced senior executive candidate with:

• Strong credibility and experience in the maritime sector, with a meaningful network
• A proven track record in board governance (executive or non-executive)
• The ability to chair with wisdom, humility, and independent judgement
• A genuine empathy for The Mission’s purpose, values and Christian ethos
• The commitment to represent The Mission at key moments (including occasional overseas travel).
