Automation & Controls Technician
Pontiac, IL – Full Time
Productive Resources (www.productiveresources.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our engineering team for our customer's facility in Pontiac, IL. As a member of our team, the selected candidate will be an Automation & Controls Technician to support our engineering team at our customer’s facilities in Pontiac, IL. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical professional who enjoys working with control systems, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting automation projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. The technician will assist engineers with system setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automated equipment including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and electrical systems.
This is a full-time position that is indefinite in duration with the opportunity of professional growth, and additional opportunities within our organization.
Duties:
- Support installation, setup, and maintenance of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Assist with basic PLC/HMI programming, edits, and troubleshooting.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and panel layouts.
- Assist with wiring, panel builds, and electrical system modifications.
- Interface with sensors, actuators, and control components.
- Support integration and troubleshooting of industrial and collaborative robots.
- Assist with hardware selection, component installation, and BOM updates.
- Help diagnose and resolve issues with automated systems and machinery.
- Provide onsite support for equipment and system issues.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams on project execution.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in automation, controls, electrical, or related technical field.
- Basic understanding of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
- Ability to read electrical prints and troubleshoot control systems.
- Hands-on experience with industrial equipment, wiring, or panel work.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Experience with robotics, automation systems, or mechatronics.
- Familiarity with tools/software such as CODESYS, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar.
- Exposure to communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet/IP, etc.).
- Experience supporting hydraulic or electro-mechanical systems.
- Background in manufacturing, automotive, agriculture, or related industries.
