Overview:
A prestigious law firm headquartered in New York City is seeking a highly analytical and strategic FP&A Manager to join its finance team. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership, driving financial insight, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management. This is a high-impact role with visibility across key stakeholders, including senior leadership, practice group heads, and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process across all practice groups and business units
- Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial reports, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and KPI dashboards
- Partner with department heads to assess financial performance and identify areas for improvement
- Develop and maintain complex financial models to support strategic planning, pricing strategy, and client profitability
- Analyze compensation, utilization, realization, and other key law firm metrics
- Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate month-end and year-end close processes
- Assist in long-term planning initiatives, including office expansions, headcount planning, and investment strategies
- Lead ad hoc financial projects, including scenario modeling, competitor benchmarking, and operational cost reviews
- Provide insights to support decision-making around capital investments, hiring, and lateral partner acquisition
- Serve as a point person for technology-driven FP&A improvements and dashboard automation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred
- 6+ years of progressive finance experience, ideally within professional services or law firms
- Strong understanding of law firm financial drivers including billable hours, realization, leverage, and pricing
- Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; experience with financial planning tools (e.g., Adaptive Insights, TM1, or similar)
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
- Highly detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive
