Controller - National Health & Wellness Brand - Excellent Mentor + Generous Compensation + Cool Perks!
Omaha, NE
Apply for this job

Join a fast-growing health and wellness company that's looking for their next controller. This established national brand with an Omaha presence is on track to double revenue in the next five years with the mission to help people live healthier lives. This is a very exciting time to jump on board!

Report to a CFO who wants you to own the show. This isn't a 'decision by committee' type of environment. You'll be trusted to make a strategic choice, run with it, and implement change. You'll also have a strong mentor who has seen it all and is invested in your success and will be available to help you learn the ropes as you transition into the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a strong, tenured team responsible for the day-to-day accounting function (AP, AR, payroll, lease accounting, etc). The CFO described the department as a fine-tuned machine. On Day 1, no major transformational change is needed, but you'll have the autonomy to elevate processes where it makes sense.
  • Drive a true month-end close process. You'll provide detailed reviews of P&Ls across various locations and perform a trend analysis to understand the "why" and explain variances and provide insights to key leaders throughout the business.
  • Take the lead in evaluating unique accounting transactions. If you are the person on your team that always raises your hand to write technical accounting memos and dig into the guidance, you are going to love this role.
  • Own the relationship with various external accounting firms and act as the main point of contact for annual audits and tax compliance across multiple locations (including internationally). Coordinate timelines, manage expectations, and make sure deadlines are met.
  • Navigate international reporting complexities, including statutory audits, foreign currency considerations, and country-specific tax requirements.
  • Own the consolidation process for a complex organizational structure. Understand how everything rolls up, evaluate intercompany transactions, and ensure allocations are accurate.

Simply put - there are parts of this job that are just really cool. Travel as much or as little as you'd like. The CFO would love for this person to experience the brand in some of the largest cities within the U.S. if that's something that's exciting to you. You'll also be interacting with board members and key leaders throughout the organization, so having executive presence is a must. The company also puts on an Annual Summit for employees nationwide. The leaders in Omaha have a public accounting background, so they have intentionally crafted a flexible work hard play hard culture that mirrors that. This role also offers generous compensation and an excellent benefits package.

Who would be a culture fit?

  • You're sharp, hungry to learn, and happy to be hands on.
  • You have a 'no task is too small' mindset. You're totally okay sitting side-by-side onboarding a junior team member one minute and then evaluating a multi-country tax provision the next.
  • You're Type A and known for your attention to detail - the type of person who would catch a rounding error or a missed oxford comma.
  • You've been described as having a collaborative leadership style. You're energetic and can celebrate the wins, but you aren't afraid to provide constructive and direct feedback.

This opportunity could be an excellent launch pad for an experienced public accounting manager ready to make the leap or someone in private industry who feels like a small fish in a big pond.
