Opportunity: Manager of Security Engineering & Operations

Company: FocusConnect

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid)

Compensation: up to $125k annually + annual leadership bonus opportunity

For the technical manager who thrives on working with people and solving complex engineering challenges or alternatively, for the seasoned engineer looking for a leadership opportunity.

FocusConnect is hiring a hands-on security and infrastructure leader to bring structure, technical depth, and confidence to a growing MSP at a meaningful inflection point serving high risk and compliance focused industries. This is a hands-on leadership role with executive-facing accountability, and it is a chance to shape how FocusConnect scales engineering standards, security operations, client advisory work, and internal team capability.

The right person may be a Senior Engineer, Team Lead, IT Manager, Security Engineer, or Infrastructure Lead who is already trusted as the escalation point, mentor, technical conscience, or steady hand when the work is complex and visible.

Why this is worth a conversation

  • You will have real influence close to company leadership, not layers of approval between you and meaningful decisions.
  • You will stay technically credible through architecture, escalations, systems thinking, and complex problem-solving.
  • You will help build the operating rhythm: standards, documentation, accountability, and process that creates clarity without slowing people down.
  • You will work on security and compliance that matter, including client environments tied to SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI, NIST 800-171, and CMMC Level 2.
  • You will join a collaborative, high-trust culture. No lone-wolf heroics. No ego-first engineering.

About FocusConnect

FocusConnect is a Denver-based MSP and cybersecurity partner helping growing organizations modernize infrastructure, strengthen security, and navigate complex compliance expectations. The company supports clients across software development, manufacturing, defense industrial base, education, nonprofit, and financial services, with work spanning cloud operations, infrastructure modernization, managed services, security, compliance, and emerging areas such as AI security and governance.

Clients are not treated like ticket numbers, and employees are not expected to operate like isolated firefighters. The culture is built around responsiveness, trust, technical excellence, communication, accountability, and genuine partnership.

What you will lead

  • Engineering execution across infrastructure, cloud, systems engineering, and security operations.
  • Secure architecture and technical decision-making for internal and client-facing environments.
  • Complex troubleshooting, escalations, architecture reviews, and operational problem-solving.
  • Internal engineers, contract engineering resources, and Help Desk leadership coordination.
  • Engineering standards, documentation practices, service delivery workflows, and accountability rhythms.
  • Security and compliance initiatives in partnership with company leadership, compliance leaders, and vCISO resources.
  • Executive-level client conversations with CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, and leadership teams around security posture, infrastructure strategy, and compliance readiness.

The person who will thrive here

  • You are equal parts technical operator, communicative leader, mentor, and builder. You will need to bring clarity when things are complex, raise the standard without creating fear, and earn trust with engineers, executives, and clients.
  • 10+ years in IT engineering, infrastructure, cloud, security operations, or a closely related technical path.
  • Progression from hands-on engineering into leadership, mentorship, escalation ownership, or team coordination.
  • Strong working knowledge across Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365, Entra ID or Active Directory, Intune, networking, systems administration, and security controls.
  • Experience in an MSP, consulting, professional services, or multi-client environment strongly preferred.
  • Comfort working around compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI, NIST, CMMC, or similar standards.
  • Clear, practical communication with executives, engineers, and clients without overcomplicating the message.

Technical environment

Azure, AWS, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory, Intune, Windows Server, endpoint management, Cisco networking, observability, documentation and operational tooling, security controls, infrastructure modernization, data migration, and cloud transformation.

Compensation, benefits, and flexibility

  • Base salary of up to $125,000 annually, plus eligibility for annual leadership profit-sharing bonus.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage through Insperity, with multiple healthcare options and HSA/FSA eligibility.
  • Life and disability insurance options, EAP, paid time off, holidays, and hybrid flexibility.
  • Colorado candidates preferred within approximately two hours of Denver, with occasional travel for key client strategy meetings or internal collaboration.

How to start the conversation

If this sounds like the kind of environment you would enjoy improving, please apply now and share your resume or LinkedIn profile along with a few sentences about the technical environments, teams, or security challenges you most enjoy working through.

Application window: FocusConnect expects this posting to remain open through June 30, 2026. Applications and referrals will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the posting may be extended based on business need and candidate pipeline.

FocusConnect is committed to building a collaborative, respectful, and high-trust team. Candidates from underrepresented backgrounds and nontraditional technical paths are encouraged to start a conversation.
