Harrison Gray Search has partnered with a fast-growing wealth advisory firm to find their next Tax & Consulting Supervisor in Iowa.
The Role
As part of a collaborative Tax & Consulting team, this role plays a central part in supporting client relationships by delivering a comprehensive planning process that addresses all areas of tax strategy and wealth management. The Supervisor will work closely with wealth advisors and strategy specialists to meet both internal and external tax service needs.
This position offers the opportunity to lead and develop a team of Staff Accountants, Senior Accountants, and Interns. In addition to overseeing tax preparation services, the Supervisor will provide mentorship, technical guidance, and training to ensure consistent service delivery and professional growth across the team.
What You’ll Do
Tax & Planning Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor tax staff, senior accountants, interns, and strategy team associates.
- Ensure the team stays updated on industry changes and implements best practices consistently.
- Lead client communication and coordinate with internal teams to support seamless client service.
- Review complex tax returns, including individual, fiduciary, partnership, and corporate filings.
- Oversee individual tax projections and assist with reviews of financial planning analyses such as Social Security strategies, Roth conversions, and stock option planning.
- Conduct technical research on complex tax topics and help implement planning opportunities.
- Maintain a team-oriented culture and provide hands-on support as needed.
Business Services Oversight:
- Review monthly financials including payroll entries, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Evaluate quarterly and annual compliance reports.
- Support managers during client meetings and act as a senior technical resource.
Financial Planning Support:
- Review and synthesize client data, financial statements, tax returns, and estate documents to develop planning recommendations.
- Evaluate and deliver tax and financial planning strategies.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Hire, train, and retain top talent; provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
- Set team goals in alignment with organizational objectives and develop plans for achievement.
- Lead with transparency, clear communication, and a collaborative spirit.
- Offer strategic guidance to direct reports, including subordinate supervisors when applicable.
Location & Schedule
- This position may be based in either Cedar Rapids or Iowa City, Iowa
- Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
- CPA or EA license preferred; CFP or Series 65 is a bonus.
- 4–8 years of relevant tax experience, ideally within a public accounting or wealth management setting.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and tax analysis software is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-first mindset.

- Competitive base salary ranging from $81,800 to $112,500, with additional incentive opportunities.
