We are seeking a full-time Master Gardener, reporting directly to the Property Manager to serve as an in-house expert overseeing the grounds of three distinguished estate properties in Cold Spring, NY; Greenwich Village, NY; and Atlantic Beach, NY.
The longer-term goal of building out a dedicated landscape Team. This role offers a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional with a refined aesthetic sensibility and a passion for crafting sophisticated, minimalistic landscapes inspired by the romantic, nature-infused beauty.
The ideal candidate will blend rustic charm, with horticultural minimalism, and a deep connection to the natural environment to create vibrant, harmonious landscapes. The position focuses on transitioning from external landscaping teams to a cohesive in-house operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee, and hands-on install and maintenance, collaborate with designers and current sub-contractors, enhancing of landscapes across three estate properties in Cold Spring, NY; Greenwich Village, NY; and Atlantic Beach, NY.
- Hands-on installation ability to follows drawings, elevations and visuals, and field engineering.
- Master Gardener will manage others while being a hands-on installer for all groundskeeping staff., Including planting, pruning, irrigation, and seasonal care, to ensure exceptional quality and presentation.
- Lead and hire, transition from sub-contractor installers to a fully staffed in-house landscaping operation staff with a goal of hiring 3-4 to improve efficiency and design consistency.
- Collaborate with the Property Manager to integrate outdoor art installations or sculptural elements, ensuring seamless harmony between natural and artistic features.
- Monitor landscape health, addressing pest control, soil quality, and irrigation using sustainable, environmentally conscious practices and report all findings to the Property Manager.
- Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to the property owner for landscape enhancements and long-term planning.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with Property Manager, staff, and sub-contractors.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience Master Gardener estate landscape management.
- Provide a portfolio of work, before and after.
- Proven expertise in execution and ability to follow drawings, and field engineering demonstrated with installed portfolio.
- Master Gardener will have experience with landscapes art-integrated designs, or comparable high-caliber aesthetic environments is highly preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of plant species and horticultural practices suited to the climates of Cold Spring, Greenwich Village, and Atlantic Beach, NY.
- Exceptional leadership, field problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple properties and competing priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with property owners, staff, and contractors.
- Assists and coordinate during seasonal events. Flexible and adaptable when a need to shift priorities.
- Valid U.S. work authorization and driver’s license.
- International experience or familiarity with European landscape design principles is a plus.
