District Partners has been exclusively engaged by a high-growth, private equity-backed organization to identify a Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting function for a key operating unit within a larger platform.


This role sits at the intersection of accounting and operations, supporting a project-driven business where job costing, WIP, and revenue recognition are critical to performance. The Controller will serve as a strategic partner to both operational and corporate leadership—driving financial accuracy, improving visibility into project-level performance, and delivering actionable insights to support decision-making.


Position Overview

The Controller will oversee all accounting operations for a designated business unit, partnering closely with corporate finance and operational leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for financial reporting, internal controls, and enhancing core accounting processes within a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.


What You'll Do:

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Lead the monthly close process, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and cost alignment
  • Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, and project profitability tracking
  • Ensure proper application of revenue recognition methodologies (e.g., percentage of completion)
  • Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and cash management with a focus on project-level accuracy
  • Partner with corporate finance on consolidations, reporting, and audit readiness
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, particularly around revenue recognition and cost accounting

Business Partnership & Analytics

  • Provide visibility into project margins, cost overruns, and operational efficiency
  • Support budgeting and forecasting tied to project pipeline and backlog
  • Develop and track KPIs related to labor utilization, profitability, and operational performance
  • Partner with leadership on pricing strategy, contract terms, and cost management
  • Analyze financial results to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement

Leadership

  • Lead and develop the accounting team, driving accountability and execution
  • Identify and implement process improvements across accounting and reporting workflows
  • Serve as a key liaison between operations, finance, and executive leadership


What You'll Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Strong background in project-based, construction, or service-related accounting environments
  • Deep expertise in job costing, WIP accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Prior experience within a private equity-backed or high-growth environment preferred
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and processes
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
