Role: Senior Mechatronics Engineer – Application R&D
Location: New York, NY (Onsite)
Our client is an early-stage industrial robotics company building AI-powered systems that operate in real-world environments. Their platform focuses on automating mission-critical warehouse workflows, starting with e-commerce order packaging, with robots already deployed in live production settings.
The company is rapidly scaling from initial deployments to broader adoption, leveraging real-world data to continuously improve performance. Operating in a fast-moving and high-growth space, they are focused on building highly capable, production-ready robotic systems that deliver measurable impact for customers.
Position Overview:
They are seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to lead application-focused R&D efforts, specifically around robot tooling and end effectors used in live warehouse environments. This role sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-world deployment, with a strong emphasis on rapid iteration and customer-driven development.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and deploy new capabilities, ensuring systems meet real performance requirements while scaling across deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy robot tooling and end effectors to expand system capabilities
- Collaborate with field teams to optimize robot performance against real-world customer metrics
- Lead rapid prototyping cycles — build, test, iterate, and refine designs quickly
- Make build-vs-buy decisions for components and subsystems
- Develop both off-the-shelf integrations and custom hardware where needed
- Partner with engineering teams to ensure compatibility with autonomy systems and scalability across deployments
- Work hands-on across mechanical, electrical, and software components
Qualifications:
✅ You likely fit if you:
- Have multiple years of experience in robotics or mechatronics engineering
- Are comfortable working across the full hardware stack (mechanical, electrical, and software integration)
- Have experience with 3D design, rapid prototyping, and design for manufacturing
- Can build and debug systems hands-on (mechanical assembly, electrical work, component testing)
- Have experience sourcing and evaluating components such as motors, sensors, or materials
- Are capable of integrating hardware systems with code
- Thrive in fast-paced, high-autonomy environments and can operate with minimal oversight
- Are highly problem-driven and enjoy tackling complex technical challenges
- Can communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and internal teams
- Are open to travel for customer and supplier engagements
❌ This role is not for you if:
- Prefer highly structured environments with clearly defined scope and minimal ambiguity
- Are not comfortable working hands-on across multiple engineering disciplines
- Prefer purely theoretical or non-deployment-focused work
- Require close day-to-day direction or micromanagement
What they offer:
- Base salary: $150k – $225k
- Equity package
- Benefits (health and standard coverage)
- Opportunity to work on real-world deployed robotic systems
- High-impact role with direct ownership over product capabilities
- Fast-paced, execution-driven environment with strong growth potential
