POSITION OBJECTIVE

As a Structural Steel Project Manager, you will oversee the estimating, planning, and execution of structural steel projects ranging from $200K to $2.5M+. This role is central to PEC’s growth strategy in steel, requiring someone who can manage active projects, bid new work, and ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.


The right candidate will balance field presence and office leadership, building relationships with clients while coordinating closely with PEC’s shop, production, and engineering teams. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership, driving results, and being part of a growing and diverse business.


POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage structural steel projects from estimating through completion, ensuring quality, safety, and profitability.
  • Prepare detailed bids and estimates using Stack Estimating Software; review drawings and manage material orders.
  • Oversee project flow: estimating, landing projects, scheduling, and execution.
  • Collaborate with shop and field teams to ensure efficient production and installation.
  • Maintain client relationships and support business development by pursuing new bid opportunities.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and documentation.
  • Train and mentor shop staff and junior estimators where needed.
  • Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership.
  • Support PEC’s vision of growth in the steel business.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • 5+ years of project management experience in structural steel construction or project management.
  • Strong background in estimating and project execution.
  • Proficiency with Stack Estimating Software required; AutoCAD, SDS/2, and Microsoft Project a plus.
  • Solid computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, shop fabrication details, and construction documents.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate with clients, shop staff, and field teams.
  • Business development mindset: ability to spot opportunities, build relationships, and grow accounts.
  • Experience balancing both field and office responsibilities.
  • Track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and at or above margin targets.
