Position Overview:
We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting processes. This role plays an important part in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data, assisting with the close process, and ensuring compliance with established accounting policies and internal controls.
The Staff Accountant will work closely with senior accounting leadership and cross-functional teams to support timely reporting, audit readiness, and continuous process improvement. This position offers the opportunity to build technical accounting expertise while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing finance team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Support balance sheet reconciliations, cash reconciliations, and other assigned account analyses.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Perform account analysis and assist in researching and resolving discrepancies.
- Contribute to the preparation of internal financial reports and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure accurate transaction processing and reporting.
- Assist with financial system maintenance, data review, and process improvement initiatives.
- Participate in special projects and additional accounting responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Several years of relevant accounting experience.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting or ERP systems.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supporting audit processes is a plus.
- Experience in nonprofit, education, or similar environments is a plus.
