Business Unit Director (Civil Division)

The Business Unit Director provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the Civil division of Fessler & Bowman within Michigan, ensuring alignment with company goals and the achievement of key performance indicators related to growth, profitability, operational effectiveness, and team performance.

 

This role is responsible for developing and executing regional strategies, overseeing financial performance (including budgeting, forecasting, and project reporting), and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Director drives data-informed decisions that optimize performance and support long-term regional success.

 

In addition to operational and financial oversight, the Business Unit Director leads and develops cross-functional teams, fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The role partners closely with business development to identify new market opportunities, secure contracts, and strengthen client relationships, while also managing escalated issues and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

 

Education, Experience and Qualifications for the Business Unit Director (Civil Division)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required
  • 10+ years of Leadership experience within the construction industry required
  • Experience in project management, estimating and field supervision preferred
  • Previous experience in self-perform trades is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and familiarity with Procore
  • High attention to detail, critical thinking, and ability to multi-task

The Business Unit Director reports directly to the Regional Vice President and serves as a core member of the Operations team. A regular presence in Fessler & Bowman’s Grand Blanc, MI office is required for this position, and relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
